Julia Roberts and Lily Collins star in this family comedy adventure based on the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Following the death of the king (Sean Bean), the jealous Queen (Roberts) forces her step-daughter Snow White (Collins) into exile and seizes power of the faraway kingdom. But the spirited Snow White, refusing to succumb to the Queen's evil plans for her banishment, joins forces with a band of seven dwarves who help her to face up to her adversary and reclaim her birthright.
Et tu, Tarsem? It's a shame that the failure of people to appreciate a gem like The Fall has led to its creator making the most generic and stupid movies to earn his keep.
I really wanted to like this movie. I like the director and I think Lily Collins looked really pretty in this film. However, this film was just not that good. The little kids that I watched with liked it, but this is not for adults.
I like to think of it like this. He makes an Immortals or/and Mirror Mirror every now and then and we get get a movie like The Fall in return. Of course, there's no proof he does this but I'd like to think he's just getting funding for his next big project...
Also, the film seems to be more in keeping with the original fairy tale than the studio-endorsed Snow White. The "not for adults" thing is possibly one of the most absurd things I have ever heard; just because a film is made for all audiences does not mean adults cannot watch them, a la Studio Ghibli's films.
Great movie. Better than what the marketing leads you to believe which led to Tarsem complaining about it. Some of the best costuming and visuals I have seen.
