Nicolas Winding Refn to Helm 'Barbarella' Series

GaumontNicolas Winding Refn will bring Barbarella to the small screen. The Danish director has teamed up with Martha De Laurentiis to produce the series for Gaumont International Television, the Los Angeles based arm of the French studio.

De Laurentiis and Gaumont are also working together on the NBC series Hannibal.

Refn directed the recent hit Drive, as well as the atmospheric adventure film Valhalla Rising and the violent thriller Bronson.

Roger Vadim's Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda and David Hemmings, will be out on Blu-ray on July 3rd, courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Blu-ray.com has already reviewed this upcoming release here.

Nicolas Winding Refn is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. With his involvement, I would wager that the TV series Barbarella will, at least, be interesting.

NWR is a genius, but I really hate Barbarella. This is...I don't know. I guess if anyone can make it good, it's Refn.

If you'd said Giada De Laurentiis, I'd have been sold. Beauty, and good food. Oh yeah, and she comes from the same family!
