Universal Studios and Focus Features have released the first theatrical trailer for Anna Karenina. The newest film from director Joe Wright (Atonement), this romantic drama focuses on Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley, Pride & Prejudice), an aristocrat living in 19th Century Russia.
Unhappily married to the distant Count Alexei Karenin (Jude Law, Contagion), Anna enters a torrid affair with a young cavalry officer (Aaron Johnson, Kick-Ass), an action that sends profound emotional and cultural tremors through Anna's rigidly maintained social circle.
Adapted from the Leo Tolstoy novel by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and playwright Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), the film features a sterling ensemble cast that includes Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Frost/Nixon), Emily Watson (War Horse), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Domhnall Gleeson (Never Let Me Go), and Olivia Williams (Rushmore).
Anna Karenina's scheduled U.S. premiere is November 9th.
I'm amazed how Keira Knightly keeps on getting these roles. It's been a while since one of these movie adaptations of famous books actually get great reviews - how nice for a change if this movie wasn't boring, was exciting, and gets great reviews.
Snore... this film has only been made 27,000 times before. It looks completely indistinguishable from the countless "Epic Love Stories" that get churned out year after year. It will surly grab a bunch a Oscars noms. I'll pass.
Tom Stoppard is a brilliant writer but I don't know about Kiera. She has the same facial expressions in every role. Visually it does look stunning as does that pounding sountrack. I might give Wright another chance even though I was very disappointed with Hanna
I'm amazed how many people can't spell "Keira" or "Knightley". I trust your views on this film as much as I trust your spelling of the lead actress's name!
