Lionsgate Home Entertainment will bring Safe to Blu-ray in the fall. This action-thriller stars Jason Statham (The Expendables) as Luke Wright, a wayward MMA cage fighter who becomes a key pawn in a brutal series of machinations between the Russian Mafia, the Triads, and the NYPD.
From Lionsgate's official synopsis:
"Wright wanders the streets of New York full of guilt and anger until he encounters Mei (newcomer Catherine Chan), a frightened 12-year-old Chinese girl. An orphaned math prodigy, Mei had been forced to work for the Triads as a counter and holds the key to a numerical code that could destroy the Triads, the mob, and corrupt cops within the NYPD. After discovering that the same gangsters who killed his family are pursuing her, Wright takes matters into his own hands to protect the innocent girl and seek revenge."
Lionsgate's Blu-ray/Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 with a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc also contains the following supplements:
Poor Statham, I wish he'd get a new agent. Most of his movies make 25M or less at the U.S. box-office. Not saying they don't make money, because I'm not sure what they cost. But, he deserves a bigger audience. Because he is a very watchable and an *extremely* likeable guy. Don't mind his mindless action films from time to time, but I wish he'd do more movies like "The Bank Job" (my favorite) and "Blitz" (not even released in U.S. theaters). He really showed off his acting chops in both. I'd also like to see him a comedy. NOT a rom com, but a comedy. And I'm not talking films like "Snatch" or "Crank", but a real true British comedy. Like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz". Would even like to see him in a drama with no action or fight scenes. I think he could pull it off. That said, I didn't get a chance to see "Safe" in the theater and will rent first. Because I saw the "Killer Elite" in the theater and it was terrible.
Love the typical Lionsgate "7.1" Audio Track, & will get this, but only when the price is low (BF Week @ Amazon prob.). Didn't see it in theaters, & TBH, I'm not expecting Much (but I'm sure it'll Look and Sound Great).
