Warner Bros. has just released the international trailer for the upcoming Gangster Squad. Inspired by Paul Lieberman's nonfiction novel, this thriller focuses on the bloody conflict that erupted on the streets of 1950's Los Angeles between mobster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn, Mystic River) and an elite team of police detectives.
According to both the film and the book, Cohen had Los Angeles in a strangehold, using his East Coast Mafia connections - in the drug, prostitution, and racketeering fields - to gain power and influence that exceeded even that of the law. Faced with dwindling resources and massive internal corruption, Chief of Police Bill Parker (Nick Nolte, Warrior) gave maverick Sergeant John O'Mara (Josh Brolin, Men in Black III) an off-the-books task: alongside a squadron of rogue LAPD officers, O'Mara was to disrupt Cohen's criminal enterprises - by any means necessary.
Cant wait to see it, They filmed one of the key set pieces of it over 5 nights at my work, back in December. It was alot of fun to witness, really like stepping into a time warp and ending up in 1949.
I have supervised a number of high profile film shoots at work, and this was definately one of the coolest, and most fun. great cast and excellent crew. talented and friendly to boot.
