Seems the US will also be getting a Paramount Collector's Edition of James Cameron's
Titanic 3D
(1997) on September, as it has shown up and is available now for pre-order for $89.99 from Amazon
simultaneously with the standard 2D and 3D Blu-ray editions of the movie.
The Collector's
Edition includes the 3D/2D 4-Disc Blu-ray edition set of the movie which comes with 6 hours of bonus features and will also be released individually, plus the following extras mentioned by Amazon exclusive to the Limited Set:
Hardback glossy Art Book
Passenger Dossier
Sketch Postcards
Collectible Titanic box Packaging
The 3D Blu-ray version will have the IMAX 3D version of movie in the 1.78 Full Frame HDTV
aspect ratio used in the IMAX presentations, while the 2D version will present the film in the
original theatrical Scope 2.4:1 aspect ratio.
The 2D only Blu-ray version will also be available separately as a 2-Disc Set.
Amazon.uk's previously posted UK Collector's Edition, limited to a 1000 copies, sold out almost
immediately, while the 3500-copies Japanese version sold out a few days later.
thephantomcat: The IMAX 3D should open the matte (show more height) in most scenes, altho some SFX/process shots might been cropped . It'll be fun to compare both versions .
Hell yes! Even though I have to shell out an extra $30 bucks (since the UK version was about $77, which I would have paid had I gotten it), I totally preordered this.
My favorite film. I had to pre-order the Limited Edition set. So happy the U.S. is getting this set as well, I was about to pay $165 for the U.K. set on Ebay.
The French edition is currently €39.99 which is approximately $49.00 USD (and then shipping on that of course...).
I was lucky and got the pre-order for the UK set placed in the few hours it was possible, but if I hadn't been lucky I would personally pre-order both the US and French set to see how the prices compare closer to release date.
@ hhhrrrinnn: France have both the big collector's set and a SteelBook edition without all the physical extras, Currently the price difference is €10 (~$12.50 USD) so if shelf-space isn't an issue this should be a no-brainer )
Screeched YAH!! ... clicked through, bought it at Amazon, canceled my crappy 2D Blu Ray order, and popped back here to read the rest of the post. No way I'm missing out on this! (I've been stalking this website for months, waiting for something similar.)
This is probably a stupid question but the actual 3D movie will be the same in the collector's edition and in the Blu Ray only release? I mean IMax and same ratio or do I have to buy the collectors edition?
I'll pass. Where does it make sense to pay $70 for basically "paper" extras (box, artbook, postcards) unless the ink is done in silver or gold? Unless the extra is something on the Blu-ray's themselves that I'm failing to see. I'm sticking with the $30 Blu-Ray minus fancy goodies package, thanks.
@ Psx005 - Good point. I'm tempted to get this set 'cause it looks really nice and I think 'Titanic' deserves the special treatment... but when it comes down to it I really only want the discs.
I have a nice china cabinet that this will look great in, right next to my Heart of the Ocean necklace, and RMS Titanic books. Is it worth $100? No, probably not. But I expect the price to drop, and I have Swagbucks gift cards to use on it, too.
Yeah, hope this is limited but US limited usually means 75,000 to 250,000. But I have owned every edition of this film including the HMV Double VHS (that I still have) so I will pre-order and wait for the price to hopefully fall to $60!
Ninety bucks is ridiculous. That's even more expensive than here in Sweden! Including what it would cost to ship it here and all that. I'm getting my copy elsewhere!
Wow, it's like reading comments from Joe 6-pack on a blu-ray forum. There is absolutely no way this will be $90 on release. None. Zero. Nada. That's only 10% of the list price. The vast majority of blus come out with at least 30% off list and this might even be higher. It won't be higher than $69.99 on its release day and probably will be less since something as BIG as Titanic is often priced to sell as many until as possible.
A Night to Remember was amazing but Titanic is still a solid film that's good upon repeated viewings. However, like Avatar, I feel like the late Jim Cameron films are only really worth watching on GIANT screens. I think a 40" tv just isn't adequate and the movies will be quite boring on a smaller set. Of course, my tv's only 40" :-(

"I recently watched A Night to Remember, and Titanic seems like a remake of that movie with the Rose story added to it, they are so similar otherwise."
Yes, I felt the same way. A Night to Remember is a great film and Titanic does seem to be a remake of it. The only thing new about Titanic is the love story.
Both are great movies though. Did you watch A Night to Remember on Blu-ray? How did it look? It recently came out and I have not picked it up yet.
Veronica Mars: Joe 6-pack? You're a smart ass and with an annoying and unnecessary attitude. So we send the bills to you if the price won't be 69.99? We'll just wait and see, then. I'm not holding my breath and counting on Amazon.com to lower their price, so I'll be ordering from another country to get both a lower price and no import fees. Same company, but another country. In that sense Amazon US loses me as a customer.
One thing that I find disturbing looking at the slipback of this release, is the photo in the book of Winslet on the couch. Jack painted her naked, and that's how it's all remembered. So why the hell isn't she naked on the photo in that commemorative book? Are they AFRAID of a little nudity? A photo of Kate Winslet's "nude" scene in that book would've made this item into something REALLY collectible and memorable. Now, she's dressed and the photo is dull and BORING. What is it with American's and nudity? When at the same time it's A OK to portray as much violence as possible in just any movie?
The scene with Rose and Jack is honestly one of the most romantic scenes in movie history, but they shy away just because of some bare breasts and don't dare to show that in a book, which potentially "anyone may look inside of". Pathetic and IMO inexcusable/unforgivable.
Everybody, i'm FINALLY STOP THE Region coding putting! Can the community of Blu-ray.com other than me do the future Blu-ray releases for Region coding??? Thanks because i'm F*** up the community of Blu-ray.com.... CALL ME the worst user of Blu-ray.com for Region coding
God I hated this film. Rose is such a selfish bitch. At the end she's complaining about being so cold floating on a pice of ship debris yet he's the one in the water! The last scene of her in bed (hopfully dead) shows how self centered she is - traveling with pictures of HERSELF throughout her life. What witch! She cared for no one, didn't want to marry Billy Zane, yet didn't mind spending HIS money. I laughed and cheered when he just slapped her. Then she screws her mother buy changing her name leaving her to die poor. This is one horrible character. As for Jack, he rode her, then rode the ship. Only one says "I love you" at the end- love story, NOT.
Good call Veronica Mars, as of 3 hours ago it is $69.99
Oh, and MikaLove, you might want to rethink that strategy... First complaining that Veronica Mars is "a smart ass" and have "an annoying and unnecessary attitude" only to go straight into a rant about "American's and nudity"
I didn't even realize collector's editions of Titanic were being sold. I just preordered the US version. It's a bit pricey for what's included, especially when compared to other limited/collector's edition sets. But, if it's a situation where it will quickly become hard to find, it's best to just buy it.
BHolst: What does the first thing have to do with the other? It was meant as separate comments.
And you don't agree it's a huge mistake to not have a nude photo of Kate Winslet in that book?
It was definitely not a rant, because Americans are scared about nudity.
The only thing I was wrong about is that the price is now 30% off.
But my point was that Veronica Mars was so aggressive about people complaining about the price. I mean, it wasn't a good strategy, from Amazon's part. Even if I haven't preordered the set yet. And it's still a LOT more expensive and overpriced compared to the French set.
This is one of the greatest films ever film made by Paramount. It has been one of my all time favorite films for years now so there is no question that this I will be picking this up when it comes out in September.
