OMG!!! SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS!!! *does creepy dance* I finally gave in and bought a DVD of this movie (being it is in the public domain and all). By far my fav "so bad it's good" film of all time. I will certainly be picking this up along with Female Vampire. Also agree with all of you about the Kubrick set: it was exactly what I first thought when I read the part about the "big time announcement." I sure hope that is what they were talking about.
In other random unrelated subject: I wish Criterion would release another one of my fav public domain titles on BD "Carnival Of Souls," the Criterion DVD is awesome and I would love it on BD.
Finally some Jess Franco on blu-ray. I hope the run times blr-ray.com list for the films are wrong. My DVD of Female Vampire runs 101 mins and Exorcism runs 94 mins.
it would be awesome to get the MST3K commentary for this BD. wouldn't surprise me if it happens actually. so extremely bad, but i can't help enjoying it: i guess i tend to like some bad stuff from time to time. lol they should release this as a double feature with Santa Claus (Vs. The Devil).
If you just want "Santa Clause Conquers the Martians", than I would HIGHLY recommend that you pick up "Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale" instead, which is a teriffic Fininsh Christmas film from 2010 with a great twist. SCCtM is included on that disk as an extra and you'll be very pleasantly surprised by "Rare". And, chances are that you'll only have to pay a few more bucks for it than you would for SCCtM by itself.
UPDATE: As somone just pointed out to me: "Yes, but it is only in SD on that release, and apparently the transfer looks awful."
Yes, fair enough--I now realize that it wasn't cleaned-up after just looking at several other reviews of "Rare" on cinemasquid.com. My apologies. I didn't actually watch the extra of SCCtM on my copy of "Rare". Let's hope Kino does their usual great job with the new disc of SCCtM. Still, I highly recommend "Rare" on its on merits, for what it's worth.
I love the Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale movie. I have it on DVD, but it is in my wanted list for BD. I am aware it has Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, but as you mentioned, it is SD only. Plus, I am hoping to have at least a couple of worthy extras on the Kino BD. I was actually surprised the Rare Exports BD had Martians as an extra. Just kind of funny given the tone of the main feature and the tone of Martians couldn't be more different.
On another note: I remember watching Martians in Brazil ages ago when I was a kid with a Portuguese dub. If this dub was included it would make worth buying the BD for its hilarity alone.
