Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is yet to officially announce its highly anticipated Blu-ray release of David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia (1962), but the Los Angeles Times already has a preliminary date for it. The newspaper reported today that "the restored Lawrence of Arabia will have a nationwide theatrical release on Oct. 4, with a Blu-ray box set due Nov. 14."
Earlier this year the newly restored version of Lawrence of Arabia, featuring approximately 21 minutes of previously unreleased footage, was screened at the Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Update: Sony has now confirmed the street date as November 13th, not the 14th. Amazon has posted a photo of the upcoming box set.
"Box set" is great, but I really hope that means it's just a proper multi-disc special edition, not some silly oversized thing full of sand or something.
Philly Q, laughed at the "sand" extra. I wouldn't put it past them. Or maybe a pair of sunglasses to deal with the blazing sun while you are watching the film.
Perhaps the best movie ever. I will certainly add Lawrence to my collection... and ... A nationwide theatrical release?? That is also great news! I saw Lawrence of Arabia in the theater 50 years ago. It will be very special to once again see Lawrence on the big screen. Bravo Sony!
Does anyone have reason to suspect that they'll make any 15/70mm prints to be released in IMAX in October? I would absolutely love the opportunity to see this film in such a presentation.
Great news, I agree with Pirate King regarding the anticipated thrill of seeing this epic return to the big screen. I hope that the theatrical and BD releases present this all time classic film in it's original/complete 222 minute running time. Thank you Sony.
Like many others, 'LOA' is my most anticipated blu-ray release -- ever. As such, I can't and won't wait until Nov, so I'm getting the region-free U.K. set a full *2 MONTHS* earlier (Sept. 10th!). And, 21 mins of previously unseen footage? -- that's a game-changer ! Also excited for the theatrical run in Oct, especially at the thought of seeing (& hearing) 'LOA' exhibited via today's modern-equipped venues....hoping for a wide release. Btw, they should proclaim Nov. 14th as a national holiday !
I've never seen this movie in full. A few years ago my father tried to get me to see it but I was determined to wait for Blu-ray. When we saw 'Prometheus' (and a character is seen watching the film) my desire ramped up. I'd love to experience this on the big screen!
I pre ordered uk bluray LAWRENCE comming sept.10 $19.43 us dollars Region Free !!!!! Have region free player anyway . it's a must have with all these HAMMER FILMS comming. What a superb year for classic movies on BLURAY ...... W O W !!!!!
"Sony sent me their official press release for the Lawrence of Arabia: 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray release. As expected, the 3-disc collectible box set will street on 11/13 from Sony. We've posted details of the extras previously, but the studio didn't confirm them in this press release. The film will return to theatres around the country for a limited time as a digital-only theatrical event starting on 10/4. The film will also be screened for one night only on Turner Classic Movies on 11/16."
I love that cover art! The size oand shape of the box seem to fit nicely on my shelf next the digiboxes of "Close enocunters", "Taxi Driver" and my Warner digibooks. It definitely looks bigger than most BD digiboxes, but that's ok I have the nr 1 spot way up to the left on my shelf reserved for "Lawrence"
The anniversary boxes of "Ben Hur" and "Casablanca" were beautiful but clumsy and with the wrong proportions. Like the upcoming US Hitchcock box set, "Lawrence" will save space and have a proper spine.
Collector fetishes aside, the best news is of course that one of the greatest films of all time is coming to Blu!
