Studio Canal will release a Double Play edition of director Alexander Mackendrick's The Man in the White Suit (1951), starring Alec Guinness, Joan Greenwood and Cecil Parker. The release, which will be part of the studio's Vintage Classics series, will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on November 5th.
Technical specs and supplemental features to be included with this release are yet to be detailed.
Eccentric Sidney Stratton (Alec Guiness) is a laboratory cleaner in a textile factory, who invents a material that will neither wear out nor become dirty. Initially hailed as a great discovery, Sidney's astonishing invention is suffocated by the management when they realise that if it never wears out, people will only ever have to purchase one suit of clothing.
Note: Blu-ray.com has a review for Studio Canal's release of Alexander Mackendrick's Whisky Galore!, also part of the studio's Vintage Classics series, here.
So glad this is getting a release, I absolutely love this film!
@cjamescook: I wouldn't hold my breath, Lionsgate is pretty much useless when it comes to releasing catalogue titles. Go grab a no-namey player for cheap and go region free!
Wish we'd get a US release...also one of "Whisky Galore" ("Tight Little Island") in the US. Hysterically funny film about a group of Scottish islanders who hide much alky during WWII. Oh, @TheManInBlue--- shame on you. Your Obi Wan crack probably caused the shade of Sir Alec to spin in his grave!!! (LOL)
