20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray three action films starring Jean-Claude Van Damme: Albert Pyun's Cyborg (1989), Deran Sarafian's Death Warrant (1990), and Sheldon Lettich's Double Impact (1991). The preliminary release date for all three films is October 2.
Cyborg
In a post-apocalyptic world, killer-for-hire Gibson Rickenbacker (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is hired to escort a cyborg to its research center which has valuable information on a cure for a deathly plague.
Death Warrant
Jean-Claude Van Damme is officer Louis Burke, a roguish police detective who goes undercover to investigate a series of inmate murders at Harrison Penitentiary. Posing as a prisoner, Burke encounters brutal inmates, corrupt guards, death and betrayal at every turn. But when he unearths the shocking secret behind the penitentiary's inner workings, Burke must attempt a daring escape that pits him against not only hundreds of murderous inmates... but also a deadly enemy from his own past.
Double Impact
Jean-Claude Van Damme leaps into the dual roles of Chad and Alex Wagner, twin brothers who were separated after their parents' brutal murder. Year later, the two couldn't be more different: Chad is a slick Beverly Hills fitness instructor, while Alex is a rough-and-tumble smuggler on the gritty streets of Hong Kong. But when fate throws them together again, Chad and Alex discover that there's one thing they both have in common: they're both fighting machines! Determined to enact revenge on their parents' killers, the martial arts experts kick, chop and shoot all the way to an electrifying final showdown aboard a gargantuan freighter in Hong Kong harbor.
First Norris's films go blu , then Bronson's, now Van Damme's! If Van Damme didn't star in "The Expendables 2" , I guess these 3 titles wouldn't be released on blu-ray this year. Anyhow, this is good news.
On my list of upcoming Blu-ray for Van Damme are two titles that should get Universal's attention: HARD TARGET (including the Director's Cut), LIONHEART (plus the International Cut). Here's hoping that Universal follow suit. These are, imo, 2 of Van Damme's best films.
Hope the transfers on these is better then Kickboxer, which was a horrible transfer. And better then Bloodsport and Timecop. which were average at best
I'm down for Double Impact and Death Warrant, pass on Cyborg. I believe now all we need to complete the Theatrical Van Damme era is Hard Target, Lionheart, Knock Off, Double Team, and Sudden Death. I wouldn't mind seeing more of his DTV era films hitting Blu-Ray.
I don't know how many times I've watched Lionheart, Double Impact, and Cyborg on vhs. I don't know why I never picked them up on dvd, but it will be nice to see them again, the later two anyway.
Bought, bought and... yep... bought. More Van Damme on Blu!!! I wish Bloodsport and Timecop would receive individual releases. Hoping Universal releases Hard Target and Sudden Death soon, too.
more good news, been waiting for Double Impact. I'll get the other 2 eventually but Double Impact is a day 1 purchase for me. Now just get release dates set for the remainder of Van Damme's theatrical releases, some DTV releases wouldn't hurt either.
Is it a coincidence that Cyborg is coming out on the same day as Masters of the Universe?
For those that don't know, Cyborg was originally written as the sequel to Masters of the Universe.
Anyone else hoping Cyborg will include the newly discovered cut as a bonus feature (only one copy is known to exist on VHS source) .. see this link for more info:
