Amazon's Blu-ray Deal of the Week affects The Hannibal Lecter Collection. Through August 4th, Amazon is offering the set for $14.99 (a 63% discount from its MSRP of $39.99).
The Hannibal Lecter Collection bundles together three films that deal with author Thomas Harris' most indelible literary creation: Hannibal Lecter (Brian Cox in Manhunter; Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal), an incarcerated serial killer whose brilliant mind often makes him of great importance to FBI profilers tracking dangerous psychopaths.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has bundled together the following features:
The Blu-ray package offers each film in its original aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks. In addition, the Academy Award-winning The Silence of the Lambs contains a wide assortment of bonus supplements, including retrospective documentaries, interviews with cast and crew members, and deleted scenes.
This deal expires at 12 AM PST/3 AM EST next Sunday, August 5th.
To "alwaysHD"- yes! Of course the highlight is SILENCE OF THE LAMBS ( you haven't seen this???) Which is the crowning jewel of the set...but don't be put off by the sandwiching pieces either! MANHUNTER is the very early works of director Michael Mann (PUBLIC ENEMIES, COLLATORAL) and does a excellent job conveying novelist's Thomas Harris "Red Dragon" (NOTE: actor Anthony Hopkins DOES NOT play Hannibal in this film). HANNIBAL is a good film, but not my favorite of the three. Even though it is directed by Ridley SCOTT (ALIEN, GLADIATOR) it's still some substance here and there...still...
To answer your question? It's a GREAT deal at a GREAT price! Enjoy!!!
so disappointed with the lackluster transfer on "Manhunter". It does not improve on the excellent job Anchor Bay did many years ago. That is the special edition version, as it contains many special features!
To bad this includes Manhunter and not Red Dragon. No offense to Manhunter, but it just feels wrong not to have the other Hopkins as Hannibal movie missing from the set.
Wait, I thought Manhunter looked pretty good, and easily the best of any of the Lecter films on BD. Silence and Hannibal look like crap and need remasters desperately.
THELITTLEPRINCE: Universal and MGM went into a semi-partnership when they did Hannibal and Red Dragon. MGM released Hannibal on the condition that Universal would get top distributor for Red Dragon (at least, that's the story I heard),so wonder no more: Red Dragon is Universal's beast and this set belongs to MGM...
