Samsung Updates BD-P1200 Firmware

Posted February 5, 2008 02:53 PM by Josh Dreuth

Samsung BD-P1200 Samsung has released a firmware upgrade for their BD-P1200 Blu-ray disc player. The firmware has been updated to version 2.1, and can be updated either by using the player's built in Ethernet port or downloading a CD image from the Samsung website. The firmware addresses many compatibility issues the player has had with recent, high-profile titles.

Titles which previously had issues with playback but should now operate correctly are:
  • Live Free or Die Hard
  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
  • Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1
  • Sunshine
...among others. If you have this player, feel free to post which titles you still are having issues with, and I'll update this post with the information. Click for more information and to download the update.

That'll teach anyone for not buying a PS3 for watching Blu-rays

Amazing that we waited all this time for a firmware update that doesn't make all Blu-Rays play yet (ie 3:10 to Yuma). Equally as bad is the SD DVD issues have not been resolved either. The 1200 remains a lemon, but it can play a few more movies now, and the disc tray opens faster.

POTC3 is still buggy. It won't play the supplemental disc at all and there are still issues with the main feature disc. Yes, it will now load and begin playing but I've encountered strange things when trying to get the pop-up menu. This is a disgrace.

HD DVD talking point-
But... but... but you cannot update Blu-ray Firmware. That is what makes HD DVD better.

I am not sure what this is al about. I have a PS3 that I just adore and have not had any problems playing Blu movies on. Is this saying that some Blu Ray players wont play some Blu Ray Movies? I hope not,

The point of buying blu for me was that I could use it like a DVD just push it in and play movies and not have to worrry down loading stuff to play a movie.

Well as allways

I only have eyes for BLU.

Sorry to sound like a broken record here, but as long as Samsung continues to support the "other format" with their dual players, I won't be doing any business with Samsung! Their players smell like they're lemons anyway!!! lol!!!
