Independent film distributor Kino Lorber has issued its Blu-ray slate for November 2012. Releases are arranged through Kino's branches Kino Classics and Redemption Films. The November titles include Fritz Lang's Die Nibelungen, a collection of four films by Pete Walker, and more.
Kino Classics:
November 6 - Die Nibelungen: Deluxe Remastered Edition (1924, Fritz Lang, 2-disc Blu-ray set). Also contains the feature length documentary "The Legacy of Die Nibelungen".
November 13 - Sergei Eisenstein Double Feature (2-Blu-ray set includes Battleship Potemkin (1925) and Strike (1924)).
November 20 - The Pete Walker Collection (4-Blu-ray set includes House of Whipcord (1974), Die Screaming Marianne (1971), The Comeback (1978), and Schizo (1976)).
Happy that Kino is releasing Die Nibelungen but I have to ask which version will be better? Kino or MOC? History tells me, based on the Metropolis release, that MOC's will likely be better since it's guaranteed to have the original German intertitles and will probably have a nice commentary track to go along with it. I'm not knocking Kino here, but the inclusion of the original German intertitles would go a long way in making this release just that much better.
Great selection, but disappointing James Whale's The Old Dark House blu ray wasn't among them. It would have made an excellent tie-in with Universal's Frankenstein, Dracula etc blu rays.
Thanks, Mr. Boisvert! I assume the others are raving, because either Masters of Cinema Blu-ray Discs are either all region, Region A playable or these people have all-region blu-ray players? It seems as though the M of C discs are Region B and the good people at Blu-ray.com have not tested them for playability on Region A players.
