Dark Sky Films/MPI Media Group will release on Blu-ray Emily Hagins' My Sucky Teen Romance (2011), starring Devin Bonnée, Tina Rodriguez and Lauren Lee. The release will be available for purchase on September 4th.
On 17-year-old Kate's last weekend in town before heading to college, she and her geeky friends head to SpaceCON, the local sci-fi convention. There Kate meets Paul, a recently turned teen vampire. When Kate tries to make a move on him, he bites her in the neck. Soon Kate and her friends discover that Paul is not the only vampire at the convention, and it is now up to them to stop the undead and find a way to save Kate before she too turns. The third feature written and directed by 18-year-old phenomenon Emily Hagins, My Sucky Teen Romance is a smartly comic take on the horrors of adolescence.
I'm sorry, but this doesn't look much better than the fan films I've seen on YouTube and I wouldn't pay money to own any of that crap. And I'm not talking the good stuff like Batman: Dead End, I"m talking about crappy Halloween fan films.
How is this going on sale? My problems with it have nothing to do with the fact that it's clearly a low budget film, but that it looks like a poorly made low budget film, that they just randomly got together and shot. The visuals are pitiful, going for the sadly, now traditional point wherever and shoot method. And, there's clearly not been any attempt to make the sound seem professional. It looks like a film that would be available for free on You Tube of Vmeo, not being distributed and going on sale for, my god, $24.99!
No thanks. I am pretty sick of people shoving this kid down our throats. She's young and mediocre at best. There are plenty of other independent filmmakers out there that should get the attention, not some youtube kid.
