The Intouchables Selected to Represent France at the Oscars

Posted September 18, 2012 10:24 PM by Webmaster

Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano's comedy Intouchables a.k.a The Intouchables will be France's official entry at next year's foreign language Oscars. The decision was made earlier today by a committee overseen by the country's National Cinema Centre (CNC).

The Intouchables stars François Cluzet (Tell No One, Little White Lies), Omar Sy (Micmacs), and Anne Le Ny (The Taste of Others). It is produced by Yann Zenou, Laurent Zeitoun and Nicolas Duval-Adassovsky (the team behind Heartbreaker).

Last week, Unifrance, an organization promoting French Cinema throughout the world, announced that The Intouchables had overtaken Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie at the international box office as the most viewed French-language film in history.

In the U.S., The Intouchables is distributed by The Weinstein Company.

In France, the film is already out on Blu-ray courtesy of local distributors TF1 Video. (See our listing here).

For a second there, I thought we were talking about De Palma's Untouchables

They oughta leave it as Intouchables and not have it translated as The Untouchables, it just makes it confusing lol.

It was called Intouchables in it US release earlier this year. It was only called Untouchables in the UK and Norway.

I was fortunate enough to see this; and both me and my girlfriend thought that is was one of the best drama/comedies that we had seen all year.

You might think that the story which features a man in a wheelchair might be a bit depressing - but not so!

I can highly recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates a buddy film with a big heart.

This is the definition of crowd-pleaser, yet I don't see it getting an Academy Award nomination. There must be way better movies somewhere in the world. Then again, The Blind Side was nominated for Best Picture.

I've seen it in France and already own it on blu-ray. It is a great feel good movie.

Go and see it, I can assure you you'll get some good laughs with this one!

The film is called "The Intouchables" in the US, and "Untouchable" in the UK. How hard is it to get the title right?

To clarify: "The Untouchables" is not the title of this film. That is the 1987 Brian De Palma film.

No surprise here. It was more than expected.

One of my favorite movies of the year! Definitely deserves it.

This movie is average at best. I'm sure France could have picked something with a little more merit to it for an Oscar entry.

It's one of the funniest films I've ever seen. By the way, editors, it still says "The Untouchables" twice in the article. Why so sloppy?
