Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano's comedy Intouchables a.k.a The Intouchables will be France's official entry at next year's foreign language Oscars. The decision was made earlier today by a committee overseen by the country's National Cinema Centre (CNC).
Last week, Unifrance, an organization promoting French Cinema throughout the world, announced that The Intouchables had overtaken Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie at the international box office as the most viewed French-language film in history.
In the U.S., The Intouchables is distributed by The Weinstein Company.
In France, the film is already out on Blu-ray courtesy of local distributors TF1 Video. (See our listing here).
This is the definition of crowd-pleaser, yet I don't see it getting an Academy Award nomination. There must be way better movies somewhere in the world. Then again, The Blind Side was nominated for Best Picture.
