This holiday season, Echo Bridge Entertainment is releasing Godzilla Vs Biollante on Blu-ray. Toho and writer/director Kazuki Ōmori first let loose The King of the Monsters to fight Biollante back in 1989, under the Japanese title Gojira vs. Biorante. Since then, and like all Godzilla titles, the film has been released on a multitude of formats, but never on Blu-ray, until now. No special features or technical specs have been announced as of yet. Godzilla Vs Biollante stomps its way onto Blu-ray for the first time, December 4th.
Following the events of Godzilla 1985, scientists collect genetic material from the mutated dinosaur Godzilla's scales. A Middle Eastern country wants the samples for their own purposes, but meanwhile, a lonely scientist combines Godzilla's genetic code with those of a rose and his own deceased daughter. The result is Biollante, an eerie plant of titanic proportions. To make matters worse, a psychic woman detects Godzilla stirring from his volcanic prison. The military sends the flying Super-X2 to stop the beast from thrashing Japan, but eventually Godzilla engages the rapidly mutating Biollante in a fight to the death.
There are bonus features - Toho Kingdom mentions a commentary - I cant wait to get this bonus features or not...
It does have 2 Japanese language tracks and an English language track ( the same as the VHS )
I will have the Japanese 2.0 and 5.1 remix tracks, and the English dub. Extras include a new audio commentary by Ed Godziszewski, and two other extras, one supposedly the making-of featurette (which includes behind the scenes footage and deleted scenes). The transfer is a port of the one Toho used for their own BD a few years ago.
If I remember right, this one struck me as having more violence, language etc than most Godzilla flicks. Like Godzilla 85, a more serious tone before Toho went totally cheesy again in the 90s.
