Sigmatek Announces SBR-1000 Blu-ray Player

Sigmatek has announced their first Blu-ray product: a standalone Blu-ray Disc player, the SBR-1000. The player will retail for under 250€ making it by far the cheapest player on the European market. The player will support 1080p24 and 1080p60 output via a HDMI v1.3 connection, as well as being able to decode Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD.
Building this low cost player is possible because it makes use of the recently announced Sony/Nichia laser which is cheaper to produce than typical Blu-ray lasers. The player should be available sometime in April.

- Output Resolution: 1080p (24/60) / 720p
- HDMI Version: 1.3
- Audio Decoding: Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS, MP3
- Media Support: BD-Rom/DVD/VCD/CD/CD-R/DVD+R (RW)
- Video Output: HDMI/Component/Composite
- Audio Output: Coaxial

If you look at the image close up it says "DOBY" instead of "DOLBY"
I'm flattered.

May not be what we would buy here, but cheaper will bring in more people to the Blu side. |

And if you look at the word below, it says DIGITA. Come on, who has stolen the 'L'? |

Being that they probably don't want to pay Dolby for trademark rights, they probably dropped the 'L' for the rendering. |

I've asked kjack if this model used the Sigma Designs SOC. If it does, it can't be that bad.
Personally, I might even buy one to be bi-region. |

What profiles will this support? It has to at least handle 1.1, but will it handle 2.0 as well? |

At this price you get a
Doby Digita Profile 1.1 Player, or a
Doby Digit Profile 2.0 Player instead. ;-) |

Looks like it'll output only the DTS Core out of the DTS-HD... . But will it output PCM aswell? |

AS cheap as this one is, I'd assume it's "plain-jane" dts. No DTS HD or either type (DTS HD HR or DTS HD MA). BDs encoded with either DTS HD will extract the dts core only. |
