Millennium Entertainment is bringing director Lee Daniels' 2012 thriller The Paperboy to Blu-ray early next year. The film stars Zac Efron (17 Again), and Matthew McConaughey (Sahara), along with co-stars, David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland), Macy Gray (Déjà Vu), John Cusack (2012), and Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!). Special features and technical specs have yet to be detailed. The Paperboy hits shelves January 15th.
A sexy thriller based on the New York Times best seller by Pete Dexter. Lured by imploring letters from the beautiful siren Charlotte (Kidman), handsome, hard-nosed reporter Ward James (McConaughey) and his partner, Yardley Acheman (Oyelowo), return to Ward's hometown of Lately, Florida, to investigate the seemingly unjust imprisonment of Charlotte's lover, alligator hunter Hillary Van Wetter (Cusack).
Looks ok, but also looks like it could have questionale acting in it. I haven't seen Precious but I saw Shadowboxer this might prove if Lee Daniels is a one hit wonder.
so good and so intense. The actors were all great, especially Cusack. The color and cinematography on this film were fantastic. Hopefully the transfer does it justice.
Ebert's review is dead on: this is indeed great trash. Two solid hours of brilliant performances, grotesque sexual depravity, outrageous pretension... and Zac Efron in tighty whiteys in almost *every scene*.
So yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of it. And, in spite of Lee Daniels' insanely wrongheaded editing choices throughout, the ending shot is very haunting.
