Independent British distributors Axiom Films have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray director Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas (1984), starring Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski and Dean Stockwell. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is January 28th, 2013.
Note: Blu-ray.com has already reviewed the U.S. release of Paris, Texas, courtesy of Criterion, here.
Harry Dean Stanton stars as Travis Clay Henderson, an errant husband who reappears in the middle of an American desert after an absence of four years. His brother (Dean Stockwell) picks him up and Travis slowly begins to retrace the paths of his old life, getting to know his seven-year-old son Hunter, and going in search of his ex-wife Jane (Nastassja Kinski), who is now working in a peepshow. Directed by Wim Wenders from a screenplay by Sam Shepard, and featuring a soundtrack by Ry Cooder.
I wonder if the transfer will be any better. There were some bits in the critereon where they mucked about with it too much and spoiled it. Like the scene in the laundrette where it looked like they were trying to correct brighness fluctuations on the image, and they forgot that the fluctuations were intended and the result of a frigging neon sign on the window, out of frame. But it looked hideous the "corrections" they did
would of liked to see MoC put it out in the UK. I have the Criterion already but like Mobe1969 said, too much mucking about with it to be definitive. Might just have to pick this up...I'll wait and see what turns out
Oh my, this has made my day, Paris, Texas for the UK, yeah! been patiently waiting for this, please bring out a perfect transfer without the critereon alterations but amazing PQ, oodles of extras that the critereon has, and even give it a steelbook, that would be sweet.
I love this movie, thank you Axiom - day 1 purchase.
