Forbidden Games Blu-ray

Posted October 25, 2012 05:24 PM by Webmaster

Studio CanalStudioCanal have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray director Rene Clement's Jeux interdits a.k.a Forbidden Games (1952), starring Georges Poujouly, Brigitte Fossey and Amédée. The release will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on January 7th, 2013.

Also on January 7th, StudioCanal will release on DVD only director Clement's Gervaise (1956), La maison sous les arbres a.k.a The Deadly Trap (1971), and La course du lièvre à travers les champs a.k.a And Hope to Die (1972).

Note: In the U.S., Forbidden Games is currently available on DVD only, courtesy of Criterion. See our listing here.

A timeless evocation of childhood innocence corrupted, René Clément's Forbidden Games tells the story of a young girl orphaned by war and the farm boy she joins in a fantastical world of macabre play. At once mythical and heartbreakingly real, this unique film features astonishing performances by its child stars and was honored with a special foreign language film Academy Award in 1952.

Carlos2992 - Criterion doesn't own the rights anymore, hence all their versions being out of print. StudioCanal owns it now.

What a powerful film. Put this on as a double-bill with 'Grave Of The Fireflies' and you've got one sad evening. Forbidden Games is pretty much the last word of the horror of war through the eyes of a child.
