Hal Hartley's Trust Heading to Blu-ray

Posted November 5, 2012 07:15 PM by Webmaster

Olive FilmsOlive Films have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Hal Hartley's (Amateur, Henry Fool) Trust (1990) in January. Remastered from the original negative, the high-definition transfer for this release has been supervised by the acclaimed director.

Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, Trust is a humorous offbeat film that offers an astute comment on various kinds of relationships between men and women in modern America. A pregnant 17-year-old, Maria, quits high school and leaves home. She meets up with a housewife whom Maria suspects of kidnapping a baby. Then Maria meets Matthew, a dangerous looking electronics wizard who carries a Korean War-issue hand grenade around with him. Maria lives with her mother, father and sister with whom she has a stormy relationship. Matthew lives with his father with whom he too has several fights. Various relationships develop when Maria's father drops down dead.

Special Features:
  • Upon Reflection: The Making of Trust
  • Interviews with Adrienne Shelly, Martin Donovan, Hal Hartley and Line Producer and Assistant Director Ted Hope
(Interviews conducted by DJ Mendel).

LOVE this film. So sad Adrienne's gone. This was the first film that turned me on to her talents and I still think it's her best (as well as Hal Hartley's).

Yes! I have the Australian import dvd and the A/V quality is sub-par even for the format. This is one of the great films from the 90s that needs to be rediscovered. I highly recommend this film.

Fantastic News! I loved the Independant Film Channel for introducing me to this mans great works back in the day. I was hooked ever since, still have all my Hartley dvds of Unbelievable Truth onward to Fay Grimm. As well as self scribed Harltley soundtracks. How bout a Hartley Box set in Blu-ray, I'm in.
