Vinegar Syndrome will release as a combo pack edition The Lost Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis. The release will feature three lost sexploitation films by the acclaimed cult filmmaker scanned from the original negatives in 2K and fully restored. Street date is January 8th.
never seen these.... i have most of his gore films, but i've never even heard of these. so are these softcore like the " emmanuelle " films, or a bit more hardcore like " caligula "? it does have an " x " on the cover, but " midnight cowboy " got the same rating, and it's far from hardcore. anyone?
They're barely softcore. These were just "nudies" that HGL made early in his career. If memory serves, he made the transition to graphic violence due to Hollywood's embrace of nudity in mainstreem films.
I've seen these and they're not that great. Just cool because it's what got him his start into the films we now love and adore of his like Blood Feast and Wizard of Gore.
I'm more interested on The Last House On Dead End Street Blu-Ray. I can't imagine how much better it could look since it's the ugliest looking DVD I own (Begotten looks awful as well).
placeboBSH, when did you see them? It would have to have been when they were 1st released to the theater because these films have been lost up until now and no prints were believed to exist until they were recently found. This is their first release for home viewing. These were actually made later in his career from 1969 to 1971. He made his first gore film Blood Feast in 1963. He made his last of his original films The Gore Gore Girls in 1972. He then made Blood Feast 2 in 2002 and The Uh Oh Show in 2009. I've heard that these films were a little more hard core than his earlier nudie stuff but will have to wait until the blu-ray comes out to see for myself.
