Amazon Blu-ray Deal of the Week: The Coen Brothers Collection and The Walking Dead

Posted November 11, 2012 08:32 AM by Josh Katz

Amazon Gold BoxAmazon's Blu-ray Deals of the Week affect both Twentieth Century Fox's The Coen Brothers Collection and selected The Walking Dead packages from Anchor Bay.

The Coen Brothers Collection showcases the work of Academy Award-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen; the set bundles together four of the Coens' most celebrated films: The bundle presents each film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio alongside DTS-HD Master Audio tracks and bonus supplements such as audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and interviews on selected films.

The four-disc collection is $19.99, or 71% off its SRP of $69.98.

Based on Robert Kirkman's long-running comic series and developed for television by Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), The Walking Dead examines a United States in the wake of a catastrophic biological pandemic, one that turns the dead into mindless, flesh-craving zombies.

The show puts a particular focus on Georgia policeman Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln, Love Actually) who tries to protect a diverse band of survivors from the terrors of this new America, though he finds his mission complicated not just by the zombie hordes, but also by unstable tensions between the living.

Amazon's Deal of the Week has discounted prices for two of Anchor Bay's Season One and Season Two Blu-ray iterations:
Both editions present the series in its 1.78:1 broadcast aspect ratio with Dolby TrueHD soundtracks. The sets also feature a plethora of behind-the-scenes featurettes and cast interviews.

The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season is $17.99, or 64% off its SRP of $49.99, while The Walking Dead: The Complete Second Season is $32.49, or 54% off its SRP of $69.99.

These deals expire at 12 AM PST/3 AM EST next Sunday, November 18th.

Can't see buying "Walking Dead": not a lot of repeat potential. Takes a whole season to do what ROMERO did in two hours.

Coen Brothers box would be nice. (Hint, hint, Grandma.)

Coen Bros set was a good deal when I got it for $25 a few month back. $20 is a steal. Whatever quibbles people might have about the picture (which, for the record, I thought was good on all four) you can't argue with $5 per movie. I'd definitely pick that one up if I hadn't already.

I hope everyone knows Best Buy will price match Amazon and most other stores websites. 19.99 in store. They look it up and price match it.

My BB only price matches brick and mortar stores' prices. (within 20 miles of the store)

The Walking Dead BR sets are required additions to any adventure fans HD library. Best show on TV for my money.

Target stores are also price matching amazon right now. You have to take the item to customer service and they look it up on an ipad.
