British distributors Second Sight Films have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray Polish director Andrzej Zulawski's cult film Possession (1981), starring Isabelle Adjani, Sam Neill, Heinz Bennent, and Margit Carstensen. The release will feature a new director-approved restoration and is expected to arrive on the market in 2013.
Weird allegorical horror from Polish arthouse director Andrzej Zulawski. Marc (Neill) returns to his wife Anna (Adjani) in Berlin after a long absence, only for her to inform him that she has taken a lover, Heinrick (Bennent). Anna has also allowed their home to fall into complete disarray, and Marc eventually makes a terrible discovery: his wife is in fact under the influence of a non-human creature which revels in chaos.
funny, yesterday I was writing a list of my favourite horror movies that haven't been released on BD yet. "Possession" was at the top of the list next to "Carnival Of Souls. Thank you Second Sight for giving one of the 80's best horrorfilms a HD release.
Great cover. But I saw the film on DVD several years ago and thought it was simply terrible. It had some great elements, but its head right up its arty ass. Cronenberg, this ain't.
Great news indeed! Terrific movie. The first time I watched it, I had a bad night sleep -for the first time in my adult life. The disintegration of a marriage has not been so relentlessly realized before or after. Isabelle Adjani is tremendous. By the way, Mondo Vision, which has issued the best DVD editions of a number Zulawski's movies, will release Possession soon on DVD -alas, not on Blu-ray.
