Amazon's 2012 Black Friday Week Lightning Sale Schedule (Update #4)

Posted November 16, 2012 06:04 PM by Tony Sanchez

Blu-ray Movies

Lighting Deals:

Are typically scheduled for a four hour time period, but the more popular titles usually sell out within the first few minutes. Bu sure to "grab a seat" at Amazon's Lighting deals page a couple of minutes before the lighting deal is scheduled to start and claim the offer the instant it becomes available. There's usually a waiting list for titles that sell out and joining the queue, sooner rather than later, will increase your chances of buying the title. Remember, you will have a limited time period to checkout on the deal after claiming it or the title will go to the next buyer on the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list, do not leave the Amazon lighting deals page, but wait for an annoucement that the movie is available for claiming.

Please keep in mind that the titles listed below are only the scheduled Blu-ray lightning deals; Amazon will probably offer many other heavily discounted titles during the week and those offers will happen without prior notice. We recommend that you make use of the site's deals tool during the upcoming week and take a couple of minutes to update your price tracking list. All of the times listed below are for Pacific Standard Time and adjustments might be necessary depending on your geographic location. Blu-ray.com will keep this page updated during the upcoming week and you will learn of any ongoing/upcoming deals as you visit the site.

UPDATE: Amazon added, Spartacus: Seasons One and Two: $32.99 (Friday 11/23 and Monday 11/26).

UPDATE #2: Two sets added, The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series: $149.99 (Friday 11/23) and Pirates of the Caribbean 3D: $84.99 (Sunday 11/25).

UPDATE #3: Additions, Dexter: The Complete Seasons 1-5: $104.99 (Friday 23) and Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series: $109.99 (Monday 26)

UPDATE #4: After a last minute change in price (Saturday), - Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection was offered for $56.99 instead of the $34.99 which had been advertised the entire week. Now Amazon has a new lighting deal for the set at $34.99 (Monday 4:20 PST). Good luck.

$8.99 for Brave? I'll take 10 copies please.

ALSO -- note that these are NOT all Blu-rays. Some are just DVDs. (King Kong and Taken, from what I've noticed so far).

horible schedule and deals. hopefully there will be a lot more unannounced deals. i think the best deal of all is fight club (even the lord of the rings box is expensive i paid 39.99 last year). only my opinion though as i am sure a lot of people will be enjoying quite a few of those.

"Gold Box Deal of the Day (All Day): Prefer your martinis shaken, not stirred? Make sure you check back to see Saturday's Gold Box Deal of the Day for a great offer on Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection [Blu-ray]. "

Don't forget ya'll, there will be unannounced deals. Which sucks because my phone is broken so I can't be constantly updated at work.

Yeah quit complaining. These are only the Lightning Deals. I bought more stuff last year of non-lightning deals than I did with them. The stand-out winner of last year for me was Season 2 of Modern Family on blu-ray for $11.49. Wasn't a LD. The rest of the deals will fall into place. Not even scared.

Last year Amazon had additional unannounced lighting deals and other significant sales. I am sure there will be more of the same this year. The fact that Amazon is matching the already known BF Blu-ray deals from Best Buy, Target, and Walmart is great news for me. Last thing I want is to waste my day making lines and trying to find movies in the b&m stores.

Is BRAVE a good movie? I haven't seen it, but I love PIXAR. But how often do you see a PIXAR or Disney title (mainstream/wide release) blown out like that weeks after it's home release? They didn't even do that for JOHN CARTER (which I did like and would love to pick up for $8.99, ha).

Looks like there are a lot of price drops today! That Abe Lincoln 3D for $14.99 is tempting, however I may wait until it drops to $8.99 later this week.

Over-all, not impressed with anything this year on Amazon, just like last year, quite a let down.

They had amazing black Friday deals a few years ago where the more you bought the more you saved. I had like 5 orders with 10 Blu-rays for the maximum discount. That is really how I built my collection. Now I have almost 1,000 Blu's!

Like Stevo...I like to wait deals out as well. I used to be one of those people who'd always have to get things as soon as they came out and then get burned by price drops. Look at the Alien Anthology for instance, was like $125 when it was first released and I just picked it up this week for $19.99.

Bond 50 is $129.99 at BB right now, Amazon will probably match that. Lowest I've seen it.

Cannot believe how fast Brave went...in a flash it was sold out. Even had the full price page on the screen...pressed "buy now" and it changed to the lightning price--and was sold out. Sheesh....

How do you find out how many copies amazon has available for each item? I am particularly interested how many brave copies there were. I heard people couldn't buy it within 5 seconds of 12:20. I want to know if it sold out fast because there was a limited number of copies, or if it sold out fast because EVERYONE was online at the same time.

@PretyHateMachin: Amazon does not disclose how many titles are available...Brave sold out very fast because it is a very high demand title that just got a home release a week or so ago .

Got my copy of Brave but just barely...clicked on the "add to cart" the second it became available and next thing I know I'm on a waitlist...then 1-2 minutes later got the prompt to add to cart and purchase...best part of all my BF purchases are free 2 day prime shipping because I waited to sign up 1 month fee trial until this wk...also got Homeland season 1 and about 6 other blu rays my kids wanted but didn't have yet that were all under 8 bucks...my mailbox is going to be jammed next tuesday

@Django Spider, the Bond 50 boxset is already at $129.99 on Amazon since a few days back. However, Amazon plans on going one step further by having this in its Gold Box deal this Saturday, describing it as "a great offer". Evidently it'll beat the current low of $129.99.

It is worth noting that non UK buyers only get the extra difference between the VAT discounted original price and the deal price. As an example on Indiana Jones The original is Pounds 39.99, the normal pre-postage price 33.33 and the extra deal benefit 3.50, not the tax discounted value of the 29,99 of the deal. Still worth having but not the same benefit as UK residents get. So far there has not been a lot to go for and many prices have gone up during the week!

Amazon is calling this week Cyber Monday Week. Does that mean more sales through out the week? Even if they aren't as awesome as Black Friday week, I can see myself picking up a few more titles.

I'd just hate seeing everything jump to $24.99 overnight from $3.99. As if $9.99 or $14.99 doesn't exist. Or worse $34.99. :/

Okay, so why did the price of the Sherlock Holmes collection change so dramatically today???

All week, you had it listed as $34.99, but the price today was $56.99???

Nah...I'll wait for a lower price...but it was VERY frustrating to see the big difference in the price today!!!

A glitch on Sherlock? It's actually listed at $52.72 before the "Lightning Deal".

BillyBayou
 - Nov 24, 2012

Vote plusVote minus Report as inappropriate

Blu-ray.com had been quoting 52.72 prior to the lightning deal, but that was the price offered by Warehouse Deals, fulfilled by Amazon. Amazon had been selling their own stock for 84.81, now discounted to 56.99 for the deal. Yeah, Blu-ray.com screwed it up, but corrected it just prior to the start of the deal. So, it's still cheaper to buy from Warehouse Deals, via Amazon.

Movie Nut

So the glitch on Sherlock Holmes complete collection - was it a Bluray.com error or an Amazon error? Could have sworn the price was supposed to be $35 or $36 today.

Wasn't Sherlock Holmes listed for $35 on the Lightening Deal? How did the price jump to $56.99, which is way over-priced? Warehouse Deals has them beat by $4! Reasonable price is $25.

Picked up The Sherlock Holmes set from a third party seller - dvdbargainbuy - for $44.55 shipped. Amazon's holiday calendar showed the $34.99 price all week - not a blu-ray.com error.

The only Lightning Deal I was interested in (that I didn't already own) was the Sherlock Holmes box set (I'm a huge fan of Jeremy Bretts Sherlock Holmes, but was really interested in seeing the Basil Rathbone movies). Then they raise the price from 34.99 to 56.99 a day before (according to Neroazzuro's comment) and it's a no-deal for me... Bummer!

Oh, well, I'll just set a price-track on it for the $34.99 and maybe it will go down to that next year

Kicks me out. 14% claimed. Try again. No go. 37% claimed. Try again. Zip. 78% claimed. Try again. All gone. It sure let me add my name to the wait list, though. W T F?
