The film is an adaptation of the cult horror novel, which - as developed by David Wong (the pseudonym of Cracked senior editor Jason Pargin) - does not immediately lend itself to big-screen treatment. However, Phantasm director Don Coscarelli has an innate knowledge of how to mine outlandish thrills from a minimum budget.

For the week that ended on March 24th, Warner Bros. and New Line Home Entertainment's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey scored the top position on the Blu-ray and overall package lists. Budgeted at around $200 million, director Peter Jackson's first prequel to his Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings Trilogy has already performed admirably at the box office; to date, it has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing individual versions of four films from the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection: Saboteur (1942) and Rope (1948) on May 7th, Shadow of a Doubt (1943) on June 4th and The Trouble with Harry (1955) on July 2nd. Plans are also underway to bring other individual Hitchcock titles to Blu-ray later this year.
