When his friend Tommy dies young, from an unexpected heart attack, detective Rafe Marino can't help but suspect foul play. But with no evidence to support him, he must investigate Tommy's death himself. A trail of mysterious faxes puts Rafe in the path of Laura Clifford, a wealthy local businesswoman who turns out to have been carrying on an affair with Tommy. Soon Rafe, too, falls under Laura's spell, though he can't shake the suspicion that she knows more than she's letting on.
