I’m not even sure how to get into the review of Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life, much less dip into its deeper metaphysical mysteries. Part of me wants to wait until I’ve seen it again (or seven or eight more times) before trying to unpack it, but on the other hand I feel like once is enough – it’s enough to absorb what Malick was going for and try to assess some very real, often banal faults that the movie has, which is strange to even discuss with a movie this out-there.
