Firmware update is available as download only. I cannot download. I have been trying for over a month to get the firmware from Philips the same as the last firmware update in July. No luck and I now have three movies which will not play. The Guardian, Spiderman 3 and the Frantastic 4.
The good news and the bad news. I got the download sent to me by Philips. The bad new is it is not standard for it to be mailed. The good news is Fantastic 4 and Spiderman play. The bad news is the new Live Free or Die Hard which I bought does not. Same story as the sideshow is the load message and after the preview of the Simpsons movie (no sound and plays only as a fast forward etc) the picture on the TV goes blank and you have to eject the disc or turn off the player to get it to stop. Don't worry you can waste your time calling the 888-744-5477 number and after being quized and given a number you will be put on hold and then told you will be transferred to a second level tech. When you speak with the tech you will be told you have the latest firmware and they do not know of a problem, but is a new firmware is required it will go though the system and no help can be provided at this time. Thanks for calling Philips.
Back again. If you watch Spiderman do not use popup for added features as it can lock and not allow you to return to the movie. You must turn it off at the player. Next, the lastest from the tech support on the 888-744-5477 number about the problem on new releases the firmware does not support. It takes a couple of months for this to go through all the necessary steps before it could be released. I think it was a way to say they did not know there was a problem. I have been told a product specialist will work on this soon. That last did not come from the 888 number. I will keep you posted of any news I get
after the latest firmware update from Phillips was installed and lots of time spent on the phone with their tech support, it seems that not all movies will play on the BDP 9000 player. I am being told there is nothing they can do about it. I think these players should come with a warning label that states "not all movies will play in this player" Does anyone know if all brands of Blu-Ray players are having this same problem.
New firmware update posted on 1/2/08, the problem I had was with the Die Hard collection neither of the 4 disk would load. The last was with POTC when it first came out.
Wakeup and enjoy the good news. Firmware release v 071122 is now available on www.P4C.Philips.com. The part can be ordered from Philips Service Parts (Par Number 4835 310 57739) January 24, 2008. Now this part is not on the site yet, but I assume on the 24th it will be available. This takes care of Live or Die Hard (3 and 4), Spiderman3, Fantastic 4, Guardian, Cars, Ratatouille, Decent and IRobot. I have the Bulletin in my hand so I hope everything works.
Ok. The firmware to play can be ordered from Phillips. Download can be reached through www.blu-raydisc.com. It will take you to the P4C site. I do not know why this site has not been updated. You can call the 888.744.5477 number and after going through all the holds and data asked from you and being switched to advanced support and going through all the data asked you can tell them you need Version 071122 Part Number 4835 310 57739. Good luck.
Back again. I see the latest firmware release has still not been added to this site. Oh well. I have the latest release and all the DVDs play. Not a problem; however, if you watch AVP Requiem do NOT press the info button. You will be sorry. Instead of displaying info the player goes into a crazy mode of replaying two or three seconds of the movie over and over and not in a nice way either. It is jerky and would remind you of a scrambled program off a cable system without being descrambed. Of course none of the other functions work and you must turn off the unit to get it to stop. Really a bad thing when you then have to go back in and try and locate where you were in the movie prior to the info button being used. No, you can not have looked at the time when it was in spaz mode as the display is showing slideshow over and over.
