Star Trek V: The Final Frontier Blu-ray delivers stunning video and audio in this excellent Blu-ray release
A renegade Vulcan with a startling secret hijacks the Enterprise in order to find a mythical planet. Kirk and his crew set out to stop the madman in an adventure that takes them to the center of the galaxy and perhaps, before the face of God. With the crew under the Vulcan's control, the captain must rely on an unlikely alliance to survive and save the galaxy.

Paramount has released 'Star Trek V: The Final Frontier' to Blu-ray with a remastered 1080p transfer. The disc replaces the imperfect 2009 issue. No new primary audio track or supplemental contents are included.
This
disc is available individually and has also been released on UHD, which is also available as part of a six-film UHD boxed set.
Shore leave is cut short when the newly designed Enterprise -- registration NCC-1701-A
-- is called upon to resolve a hostage crisis on the planet Nimbus III, a world settled jointly in the
name of "galactic peace" by the Federation, the Klingons, and the Romulans. Each of these
powers'
emissaries to the world is taken captive by a renegade Vulcan named Sybok (Laurence
Luckinbill) who devises a scheme to overpower the Federation forces and hijack their starship for
the purpose of traveling to the edge of the galaxy in search of God. Though with only a skeleton
crew and plenty of technical problems plaguing the ship, the Enterprise heads to Nimbus
III, only to fall prey to Sybok's plan. With the Enterprise crew enchanted by Sybok's
mystical ability to ease the burden of deeply rooted individual pain and suffering, the ship heads
towards a world that may be home to God while a Klingon Bird-of-Prey pursues.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier arrives on Blu-ray "remastered from a 4K scan of the original film elements." Derided, decried, and doubted
though the
film may be amongst fans, Paramount has not cut any corners for this new Blu-ray presentation. This is a handsomely filmic image, true to the
source and boating a fine grain structure
that is even and pleasing and without massive fluctuations in density or any sign of scrubbing. On the contrary, and unlike the previous picture which
looked fairly waxy and artificial, this has a very pure, satisfying appearance about it. Details are very true and attractive, revealing skin with superb
clarity and costumes with tactile layers and levels and material elements. Locations are beautifully rendered as well. Whether the dusty nothingness
of
Nimbus III, the natural splendor and diverse complexity of the Yosemite Park landscape and the mountain face, or the bridge of the Enterprise, every
location looks clear and complex.
Colors enjoy stable accuracy. The palette here is rendered much more truly compared to the previous Blu-ray, which looked garish and oversaturated.
Here, tones are not dim or dull but rather coming from a place of improved realism. Red Starfleet uniforms stand apart for authenticity and look a bit
fuller than they do on the remastered Blu-ray for The Undiscovered Country. Bright clothes out in the sunlight at
Yosemite,
and the natural greens around the park, pop with all of the vibrancy Blu-ray can muster. Black levels are excellent, especially out in space. Whites
can't reach the level
of intensity and realism as found on the companion Dolby Vision UHD, but they look great for Blu-ray. This is a resoundingly good image and a
well worthy upgrade over the very iffy 2009 release.

Maligned though the film may be, its Blu-ray transfer will be thoroughly celebrated. Paramount has done a wonderful job on this Blu-ray and brought
much needed newfound life to the film. While the audio and supplements are simply ports, the content remains very good even all these years later.
Highly recommended.
