The best this film has ever looked or sounded
I saw this film about twenty years ago for the first time with the Elite LaserDisc, as it was almost impossible to find before then on any format. Then when that same version was released on DVD, it was never hard to find. After seeing a newly remastered 35mm print ten years ago, we finally got a high definition release on DVD and later on Blu-Ray. Now this set with the glorious 4K remaster, the picture has improved over the past twenty years, and have been fortunate to have not seen the old film prints with the inconsistent color and brightness issues. The sound has as well, the LD featured a flat sounding stereo surround track, than a 5.1 mix to a 7.1 one, not bad for a film that was originally mono when it was released. Special features have of course been ported over from previous editions with some new ones including two new audio commentaries. Well worth the price for this set, and it's too bad that some of the original cast including Marilyn Burns, who recently past, are not around to enjoy it. It may not look or sound like a new film, but it's the best this film is ever going to be, even if they release a new version in ten years. | |
