Dell has announced that they have added a Blu-ray drive (with reading capability for Blu-ray Discs, and read/write capability for DVDs and CDs) to their award-winning Inspiron line of laptops. More impressive, the Inspiron 1525 with Blu-ray drive will only set consumers back a mere $879. The computer features a 15.4" 720p screen and HDMI output.
Blu-ray disc decoding will be accomplished via a dedicated Broadcom decoder located in the laptops mini-card slot. And for those consumers who want to watch Blu-ray movies on-the-go, Dell has available a slim travel power adapter and IR remote control for quick access to Blu-ray menus.
These laptops are available today directly from their website, and come in a variety of colors and configurations to match any Blu-ray fan's needs.

Josh, in the first sentence, the second "has" should be "have":
"Dell has announced that they has added a Blu-ray drive"

You can add a burner for about 350$ more... witch is still cheap considering that 1 year ago a Blu-ray Burner was 899.99$ LOL

The burner costs have come down quite dramatically in 24 months. Now, with no war, the burner and media costs should now start coming down, too. I can't wait to replace the DVD-burners in my PC's at home with BR burners. I have archiving needs that 50gb will help with!

About time, HP has HD DVD laptop for under 800 bucks; last timei check, so is not a suprise to see blur-lay laptop under a gram. But this lead to good dierction, like blu-ray software.

And why again does Apple not have a blu-ray drive yet?? They're getting behind the game. I would have thought Apple would have a Blu-ray drive in all of their Mac Pro systems by now and would be coming out with drives for their iMac and laptop systems soon. Dell has had Blu-ray drives available for their desktops for about a year now.
Isn't Apple on the Blu-ray board and affiliated with Pixar who releases movies on Blu-ray? Come on Apple, get with it!

Wow that looks utterly awesome. And HDMI output as well!!!
Hmm, I like the idea of the broadcomm decoder. I wonder if they will become readily available in multiple regions. Eg, swap the decoder to swap regions...
And having HDMI output, it could end up being a pretty good multipurpose player/entertainment system

You don't need 1080p on a 15.4 or 17 inch laptop/notebook monitor. That's waaayyy overkill for such small screens. This is not a ploy! if you can get a laptop and a bluray player in it for $1000, that is BARGAIN!
