Lost, Grey's Anatomy Head to Blu-ray

Posted April 25, 2008 01:10 PM by Josh Dreuth

Walt Disney PicturesWalt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed that they plan to bring the fourth seasons of both "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" to Blu-ray this year. First up with be 'Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Fourth Season—Expanded', which is set to debut on September 9th, day-and-date with the DVD release. It will feature not only a "beefed up" version of the "Forever Young" episode, but also audio commentary from executive producer/director Rob Corn.

Following three months later on December 9th will be 'Lost: The Complete Fourth Season—The Expanded Experience' which will also debut on the same day as the DVD. This set will include bonus featurettes and hints to unlock the plot of the series.

Lori MacPherson, Disney's general manager of North America commented, "Grey's and Lost are our biggest TV on DVD sellers year over year. They have a broad audience base for Blu-ray. It's still too early to take all our shows and put them on Blu-ray, but we are proceeding slowly and steadily."

Does anyone know if we're likely to see these over in the UK?
I'd happily part with my cash for these along with the Prison Break box set, but have seen no sign of
any UK release dates as yet!!?

They should release the complete Seasons 1 through 4 boxset for this Christmas. There would be a very good $300 gift for me.

Lost Season 3 is one of the best looking shows on BD, it looks almost 3D in some places. Absolutely top tier. Can't wait for Season 4, but I do hope they hurry up and get us Seasons 1 and 2 as well.

^^^^^^^^^^Yep. It sounds like a very personal problem to me.

This is excellent news but for me I want a BOXED SET of all th seasons...sorta like Friends. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Prob when Greys and Lost end their runs. Until then I'll watch it on tv whenever they air reruns or marathons.

Still though thats great news.

I have this terrible feeling that seasons 1 and 2 of LOST will only come out on Blu in a Complete
Series set. Which would be awesome, but I want them sooner than 2010. How about Pushing
Daisies and Desperate Housewives. Both very "pretty" shows.

I'll buy "Lost: Season Four".

I'm tempted by "Grey's Anatomy", but while I really enjoyed season one (and own it on DVD), I have yet to see all of season two (and have viewed none of season three)... so I'll have to pass.

Great news from Bill Hunt regarding some of Buena Vista's TV on DVD releases though as they look to be supporting their TV titles on DVD well. I might consider picking up "Samantha Who", but I'll probably forego the rest (even though there's a couple more I would have picked up had they been on Blu-ray).

Shame that Buena Vista didn't feel the need to reduce the MSRP on either of these releases due to the smaller amount of episodes though...

Lost Season Four is a must buy for me. I miss the point why some wont get this because Seasons 1 & 2 are not on Blu-ray yet. They are on DVD last I checked.

To those who are waiting for Lost S1&2 on BD, be prepared to wait until Christmas 2010... There might be a slight outside chance they are coming out late in 2009, but I wouldn't bet $0.99 on it.

This is so stupid. Season 3 & 4 of Lost, Season 6 (both parts) or The Sopranos, Season whatever of Grey's Anatomy. Why in the world are all these networks releasing these seasons without going in order? So so stupid.

I realize they want to do day and date with the DVD release (same marketing budget), but common. Release seasons 1 & 2 already.

"It's still too early to take all our shows and put them on Blu-ray, but we are proceeding slowly and steadily."

Boy, slowly is right!

As per Bill Hunt:

"If you're looking for older seasons of Lost and Gray's (or other shows, like Smallville) on Blu-ray, you'll have to wait a little longer. Industry sources are telling us that BD authoring and replication facilities are packed with work on new release and catalog film titles for the holidays, so older TV product is taking a back seat right now, at least until later in the year. They'll come eventually, but it's going to take some time"

In fact, I won't be buying till I know they'll all be available. (I hate when studios do this and take years to let you buy their collection.)

I agree with all the previous posts about wanting S1 and S2, but I will definitely pick up S4 of Lost. Due to the fact that I wanted to watch the show in order as I had never seen it, I picked up the DVD's for S1 and S2 at BB for $29.99 each. When S1 and S2 come to BD, I believe I can recover half my original cost. This is worth it for me. Its clear that catalog TV box sets don't sell as well as day and date releases, however there is no excuse for not giving us a time line. I suppose it is possible that some TV shows will only have certain seasons released on BD like The Sopranos, however I hate to think this way. I recently made the decision that I want to build my BD collection the way others built a DVD collection so the fact that catalog releases for TV shows are not coming is a little frustrating.

Probably going to pick S4 on Grey's Anatomy although I have not seen any of the first 3, but will be looking to pick S1-S3 on DVD before watching S4.

I'm not surprised that Lost 4 is coming out, once they released one season on blu, they've set an expecatation that all future seasons of this show will be released in blu-ray. I second the thoughts on seasons 1 and 2, however I'm not too worried. Now that blu-ray has won, I expect all shows filmed in HD will eventually find themselves to blu-ray (personally looking forward to My Name is Earl seasons).

Don't you think the earlier seasons should be available too? Like Heroes which will be re-release the
first season on Blu-Ray too, cuz i think it's awkward to have one or two seasons on blu-ray and others
on DVD...

If you're waiting to buy Lost s3 and 4 until s1 and 2 come out, you are hurting TV on Blu-ray! Sales have been very low for these TV sets, and studios see that as a sign that they need to wait until the market is more developed to continue releasing TV sets on Blu-ray.

Sure, I don't expect you to buy them if you haven't even seen seasons 1 or 2 yet (though you could always get the DVDs cheap, or rent them - watching stuff in standard def so you can be up to date on a TV show won't kill you). But if you've seen seasons 1 and 2 already, what is the problem? ABC's method of day-and-date with new TV sets makes perfect sense - they'd be foolish to miss day-1 sales of these shows, that's the optimal time to release a Blu-ray set.

While I too would love seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-ray, you have to understand that authoring and manufacturing capacity are pretty full right now, and catalogue TV sets that will not sell in great numbers are just not the top priority. This isn't like when TV sets starting coming out on DVD and there were no VHS boxsets (for the most part) - DVD boxsets are everywhere, so one can easily catch up on a show if they want. Earlier seasons will come, you just have to be patient. If you're holding out for some silly reason, you're just hurting the chances of them coming out sooner.

I think it's great that these are being released. But I hate it when things are out of sequence (release wise). It's like reading a book from the middle - pointless.
But, BRAVO for releasing it. Just don't forget the back catalog.

I (just like everyone else) would love to see Lost S1 & S2 on BR but I went ahead and purchased season 3 and will purchase season 4 because I had purchased S1 and S2 when they were released in SD. I would assume it is just a matter of time until season 1 & 2 will come out with additional content from the original SD releases on blu. I doubt very seriously they would only release those seasons in HD in a complete show box set. I don't know about everyone... but I watch the show weekly and like to see the additional features on the DVD to better understand what is going on - I generally don't sit and watch every episode over again in chronological order. The cool thing is that by purchasing season three and watching it before the start of season 4 - it really seemed like you had a leg up on grasping what was going on in the new season of the show. I can always replace my SD season 1 & 2 when they come out on bluray (and they will).
