Orson Welles' Restored Othello Heading Back to Cinemas

Posted February 28, 2014 05:34 PM by

Carlotta FilmsFrench label Carlotta Films has released a trailer for the new 2K restoration of Orson Welles' Othello (1952), starring Micheál MacLiammóir, Robert Coote, Suzanne Cloutier, and Orson Welles. The new restoration will open in cinemas across France on April 23rd.

In the United States, the new restoration will have an exclusive theatrical engagement April 25th - May 8th at Film Forum in New York, courtesy of Carlotta Films U.S.

Synopsis: Orson Welles directed and starred in this version of Shakespeare's famous tragedy. Filmed on a shoestring budget over two years, Welles strips the famous tale of sexual jealousy and betrayal down to its essentials, casting himself as the tragic Moor. Winner of the 1952 Best Picture Award at Cannes.

Note: The restored Othello is also expected to arrive on Blu-ray in France later this year.

All that comes to mind is Dennis Hopper's line from "True Romance".

That poster would make great cover art for the blu-ray. I hope this heads to cinemas here in Australia.

Sounds like that damned overdubbed music and effects track again....sigh. I really hope that the blu ray release will have the original as an option.
