Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed via their retailer site that they will be bring 'Kill Bill Part 1' and 'Kill Bill Part 2' to Blu-ray on September 9th. Its way too early to talk about specs or special features - we'll have to wait for the press release for that - but the fact that these highly anticipated films are finally coming to Blu-ray should make many fans smile.

This is a great addition to the Blu-ray line up and I'm sure I'll probably buy it but what I'd like to know
is what is taking Disney/Buena Vista so long to announce a release date for Sin City. I've been waiting
on this one for over a year now and the only news I've seen about it is in previews on Disney Discs.
Are they having problems making a good transfer because of the black levels of the movie or are they
just enjoying teasing people every couple of months by showing a scene from it in one of their
advertisements. Come on Disney/Buena Vista! A little info towards a release date/time frame wouldn't
kill you would it? | |

It better be the director's cut that they already released in Japan or I won't be buying it.
From wiki:
In the United States Kill Bill: Volume 1 was released as a DVD on April 13, 2004 while Volume 2 was released August 10, 2004. As of May 2008, only the basic DVDs have been released, with almost no special features.
In a December 2005 interview, Tarantino addressed the lack of a special edition DVD for Kill Bill by stating "I've been holding off because I've been working on it for so long that I just wanted a year off from Kill Bill and then I'll do the big supplementary DVD package."[18]
The United States does not have a DVD boxed set of Kill Bill, though box sets of the two separate volumes are available in other countries, such as France, Japan and the United Kingdom. Upon the DVD release of Volume 2 in the US, however, Best Buy did offer an exclusive box set slipcase to house the two individual releases together.[19]
Work appears to be continuing on the release of an American special edition with Uma Thurman commenting to MTV in April 2008 that “Right now he’s putting the two films together with an intermission with an added anime sequence he had already written. So additional stories are in there, in animation.” [20]
[edit] Differences in Japanese cut
While the American cut of the movie shows part of the violent battle at the "House of Blue Leaves" in black-and-white, the Japanese cut shows it in color. In addition, the Japanese cut includes a few extra bits of violence distributed throughout the film, most notably during the anime sequence and the showdown at the "House of Blue Leaves". Furthermore, the Japanese cut shows The Bride cutting off Sophie's other arm during her interrogation. Some say there's a continuity error because it appears that Sophie's arm is still attached when she is rolling down the hill, but that is actually the tourniquets unrolling, which The Bride applied to make sure Sophie didn't bleed to death. These cuts were made to the U.S. version in order to avoid an NC-17 rating.
The quotation "Revenge is a dish best served cold" (attributed as being "an old Klingon proverb," in reference to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) at the beginning of "Volume 1" was replaced by a tribute to Japanese filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku[21]:

Just to clarify a mis-statement: The origin of the saying; "Revenge is a dish best served cold is NOT a Klingon proverb!
Read on:
Revenge is a dish best served cold
"This phrase appeared originally in the 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons), written by the French official and army general Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. You might remember the 1988 Stephen Frears movie of the same name that was based on the book."
While we are riding a “movie and media reference” kick, the revenge is a dish best served cold phrase appeared in several additional titles. I’ve never been a Star Trek fan, but evidently in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan the Klingon proverb bortaS bIr jablu’DI’ reH QaQqu’ nay’ translates to “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” Actually, if memory serves, Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies reference the Klingon proverb in their use of “Revenge is a dish best served cold” as a tagline.
Batman’s enemy Mr. Freeze is known to use this expression. I’m hesitant to invoke the 1997 movie Batman & Robin, as this film, in my opinion, was the utter nadir of the Batman movie series, but here is a quote nevertheless:
If revenge is a dish best served cold, then put on your Sunday finest. It’s time to feast!
According to Answers.com, our phrase under consideration appeared in the 1949 film Kind Hearts and Coronets as “revenge is a dish which people of taste prefer to eat cold.”
Mark Liberman has an excellent write-up on this subject at Language Log in which he references part of a Wikipedia article that seems not to exist anymore:
The saying exists in many cultures, including Sicilian, Spanish and Pashtun, making its ultimate origin difficult to determine.

Yeah, but the Klingons claim that William Shakespeare was really one of them. How do we know the Klingons didn't invent the phrase thousands of years ago?
You're taking it too seriously.

I was in Japan when it was shown and I loved the water works in bold striking Technicolor and not so artsy fartse with all that silly black and white when I saw it again on the American DVD release.
Honestly, I thought for a second my disc was corrupted when the color disappeared! It's a damn shame the Blu-ray will probably be that edition and I doubt it'll be a purchase for that reason.

Yes.. we need full color, with a 'making of' featurette, tarantino/thurman commentary track, Sonny Chiba featurette, 'history of kung-fu films' featurette, ode to 'bride wore black' and 'lady snowblood', full violence in the animated feature, and Yuen-Woo Ping interview and commentary.
Very exciting stuff!!!

Hooray for the Blu ray release! However, let's forget all this KILL BILL, Part 1 & 2 crap! I want the ORIGINAL version, which was the 3hrs+ edit, with the "Crazy 88" sequence in COLOR (as was seen in the original trailer and in the overseas release) and Michael Jai White's scene (where he and his boys challenge Bill, who killed their master) re-cut back into the film. It should be simply entilted, "KILL BILL" (The 4th fillm by Quentin Tarantino) as was ORIGINALLY presented. We don't even need to call it "THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR", which was what they were gonna call the "restored" version at one time. Man I hate when Hollywood does that $h!t

(As at least one other user commented) Please, please release this as one film, or at least offer some
sort of bridging featuring to allow viewers to watch as two separate films, or as one (as it was
originally written, shot and marketed).

Each of these had better be a BD-50 w/something other than Mpeg 2. That would be a shame if it's only a BD-25 Mpeg 2. No way not one film that'd be like a 4 hour video on even a BD-50 would look horrible. Pay no attention to that noob.

Although this is one of my favorite films of all time, I don't think I can double dip yet. I'd recommend everyone to hold out and wait for the Whole Bloody Affair version as previously stated.
I have the original R1 DVD releases and those will have to hold me over until the Whole Bloody Affair Blu-ray version.
