Upcoming Carlotta Films Releases
Posted December 22, 2014 10:33 PM by
Earlier today, French label Carlotta Films sent us a brand new holiday card with a number of titles that will enter its Blu-ray catalog and get theatrical rereleases in France in 2015.
Amongst the titles on the card are Otto Preminger's Bonjour Tristesse (1958), which will arrive on Blu-ray later next year, Michael Cimino's Year of the Dragon (1985) (also coming to Blu-ray), Orson Welles's Mr. Arkadin (1955), Dominique Benicheti's Cousin Jules (1972), Hou Hsiao-Hsien's A Time to Live, a Time to Die (1985), Delmer Daves' 3:10 to Yuma (1957), Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman (1984), and Sandrine Veysset's Will it Snow for Christmas? (1996), amongst others.
There are no preliminary dates or technical specs for the upcoming releases, but we will post updates as they emerge in 2015.
Great titles by Chimino, Welles, and Hsien. I expect these titles are available in the US by the Carlotta US distribution with English subtitles included!!
I was lucky enough to pick up the all-region Hsien box set that circulated a while back, but its PQ is poor (non-anamorphic widescreen, etc.). It would be great to see Criterion or one of the other domestic houses do something about that situation. (I hope this announcement means new masters for at least that film are extant.)
A Time to Live, A Time to Die has already been released on Blu-Ray in Taiwan, along with Hou Hsiao-Hsien's Dust in the Wind. The Sandwich Man has also been restored.
