Woodstock Announced for July 2009

Posted August 6, 2008 12:11 PM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros.Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music: Ultimate Collector's Edition' to Blu-ray on July 28th, 2009, day-and-date with the DVD. The release will feature the four-hour Director's Cut of the film which has been remastered from the original film elements and scanned at 2K resolution.

A new 5.1 audio mix has been developed under the supervision of film director Michael Wadleigh. Audio mixing of the newly found footage is being overseen by the concert's original chief engineer Eddie Kramer. If none of that makes sense to you, it means that Warner is ensuring that this historic concert Blu-ray have the most accurate soundtrack possible.

Extras announced for this release filmmaker commentary, replicas of handwritten notes from Festival attendees, the 40-minute documentary "The '60s and the Woodstock Generation", studio archive letters, and other souvenir collectible items.

In order to spur interest in this new release, the original release has been on moratorium (out of print) and will remain in that status until this new title is released.

I remember seeing this in a theater in which a special sound system was installed (years before TFX was around) to make the sound experience better approximate the video experience. My own current sound system (in a much smaller space) probably rivals the one they used back then. After this arrives, I'll have to tell the neighbors to stay away that day so I can crank up the volume and get the full effect once again.

<< HAVE TO BE UNCOMPRESSED PCM sound !! >>

Well, any lossless sound will do, really. Warner did an amazing job with the TrueHD track on "The Song Remains the Same". If that's any indication, this disc should be excellent.

Let's just hope the special 'souvenirs' don't include a tab of the brown acid.

All right! Fingers crossed about lossless audio. [Unfortunately it was mentioned before that this was going to be a digibook...] [And sorry, no Stones.] Recall something similar re GregBlu5's theatrical experience, back when this first came out... So bring it on!

Will be the greatest music Blu... There is no 1 & 2 movie-wise, just soundtrack album wise. 1 contained most of the music that was in the movie, 2 contained music that wasn't in the film. [Both of them got lots of play on my stereo back in the day. Think I still have a recording of the movie's radio commercial somewhere or other.]
