@DisneyAnimation: A Short Story on Shorts - Continuing a legacy started in the earliest days of the Studio by Walt Disney, the Shorts Program is thriving today at the Animation Studios that bears his name, producing award-winning shorts that tell new stories and experiment with artistic and technical innovations. This latest chapter in the @DisneyAnimation series gives us an inside look at the process of developing and producing a short. Hosted by actor/comedian T.J. Miller (voice of "Fred," Big Hero 6), we will meet a few of the artists and filmmakers who make the shorts, and learn why they are such an important part of the fabric of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Round Table Panelists include Lauren MacMullan (Get A Horse!), Mike Gabriel (Lorenzo), Kristina Reed (Feast, Paperman), Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters (the team behind The Ballad of Nessie, Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater).
Runaway Brain (1995) - DMA debut Short film originally released in 2004 as part of the Walt Disney Treasures Collection: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Vol. 2 DVD set. This short was nominated for an Academy AwardŽ and screened during 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
I guess it was only a question of time after the 2 Pixar short film collections. I'll still be getting this even though I most likely have all of them on other Disney releases, it's a popular format when showing these to our kids
Im excited for this, 12 shorts on one collection. how will it use DMA, 12 seperate codes, or all the shorts are one magic code, where the DC+ works again for all 12?
This is going to be a really short release. Did they really need to include the Christmas themed Prep and Landing one or the How to Setup Your Home Theater? Regardless, I know some are overlap, others are not... am glad this is coming out still as I love the Disney shorts. And this will be a nice companion to the Pixar ones.
Hm. I suspect applicable shorts will have 7.1 surround. I have an e-mail out to see if I can get some clarification. For now, I removed "5.1" from the news post.
That's what I would like to know. But I think it's probably getting harder to get these classic old cartoons out on blu-ray because people will find things in them that are not PC, take the 2nd volume of Tom & Jerry, for example, on indefinite hold.
For those that aren't aware: "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater" is a contemporary Goofy short made as a tribute to the 1950's Goofy "How to..." cartoons such as "How to Dance", "How to Swim" and "How to Ride a Horse". It's very funny and was nominated for an Annie Award for best animated short film.
Unfortunately, it appears that once again, Disney is not releasing this in 3D even though some of the films were exhibited that way.
Only four of the 12 shorts (Tangled Ever After, Paperman, Get A Horse and Feast) were made with 3D, so they probably thought it wasn't worth it. None of the shorts in both Pixar collections, especially the second one, have 3D versions and no one complained about that
The Little Matchgirl is one of the best modern Disney shorts ever made, so I'd say 'beloved' is appropriate. Besides, if this sells well then it'll be more likely that they start releasing the classic shorts.
There are only four shorts not already included on movies I already own or plan to own (assuming "Frozen Fever" comes out with "Cinderella")
1. "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater"
2. "Tick Tock Tale"
3. "John Henry"
4. "Runaway Brain"
Are owning those four shorts worth buying an entire disc? Maybe when the price comes down to $10 or less.
@jholmes93, Little Matchgirl at 1080p is already on the Little Mermaid blu-ray!!! If a lazy reissue like this sells then Disney will see no need for making a real effort and release the classic shorts.
@uther No if this set sells well then Disney will likely consider making a classic shorts collection, because it'll show them that people are interested in owning these things
@Herry Dunston: Yes, Runaway Brain appears to be a DMA exclusive, though disc buyers can get it by redeeming the code inside.
@Blucollect: It should be one code. The Pixar sets didn't come with codes on BD, but even they were released as sets on DMA.
@LippytheLion (and jholmes93): Of the four made in 3D, one was released in BD3D here with its feature (Paperman with Wreck-It Ralph); two were released in BD3D with all foreign BD3D releases of their features (Get a Horse with Frozen, Feast with Big Hero 6). AFAICT only Tangled Ever After has yet to appear on BD3D anywhere, and that's because it was released on BD with the original Cinderella instead of Beauty and the Beast 3D; if it didn't happen then it won't happen now.
