Kino: Superdome and Wild Palms Prepped for Blu-ray

Posted June 21, 2019 07:39 PM by

Kino International
Kino Lorber have revealed that they are preparing Blu-ray releases of Jerry Jameson's film Superdome (1978) and Bruce Wagner's TV mini-series Wild Palms (1993). The two releases are expected to arrive on the market early next year.

Superdome

Synopsis: A psychotic killer stalking New Orleans threatens the Super Bowl game and the spectators on hand for the annual sports event. Starring David Janssen, Tom Selleck, Edie Adams, Clifton Davis, Susan Howard, Van Johnson, Ken Howard, and Donna Mills. Cinematography by Matthew F. Leonetti (Hard to Kill, Commando).

Wild Palms

Synopsis: A dark sexy, noir Los Angeles of the future is the backdrop for Oliver Stone's haunting, sci-fi saga of greed, treason and virtual reality. Harry Wyckoff (James Belushi) is about to become a player in a dark and terrifying battle where everything is at stake and no one is who they seem. Featuring an all-star cast, this story about a cult, a corporation, and a conspiracy to rule the country, is one of the most original movie events in recent history. Also starring Kim Cattrall, Angie Dickinson, Robert Loggia, Ernie Hudson, and Dana Delany. Series cinematography by Phedon Papamichael (Nebraska, Walk the Line).

Wild Palms...ABC promoted it like crazy, and the ratings were "meh". So was the mini-series itself. Still, this gives me hope that other mini-series will get Blu-ray releases. (V and V: The Final Battle, please and thank you.)

SD sounds a lot like Two-Minute Warning (Janssen was also in that)

I still have Wild Palms recorded on VHS. I also hope to see more miniseries like Echoes in the Darkness.

MGM previously released "Wild Palms" on DVD. Knowing MGM and KL, I suspect the same master will be used for Blu-ray, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

The series began with a great promising bang and ended with a disappointing whimper, and you can tell that Wagner was running out of story ideas. But it has some amazing parts, including Robert Loggia's no-holds-barred performance and a kinetic episode directed by future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow.

I still remember seeing the original run of Wild Palms on TV. Great cast and story, Day One for me.
