In an early announcement to retailers, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed that they will provide fans with multiple options for the upcoming Platinum Edition Blu-ray release of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', which is due to hit store shelves on October 6th, seven weeks before the DVD release.
The standard Blu-ray release, which can be seen/pre-ordered here, features Blu-ray packaging, and features the Witch holding the poisoned apple.
There will also be a 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (DVD Packaging) which will have the same discs, but in a DVD case featuring Snow White on the cover. This version is obviously to appease DVD fans who don't want to adapt to the new, smaller form of Blu-ray disc cases.
For collectors, there will be three options. The first, and least expensive at an MSRP of $60, is the 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Collectors Book Set)' which will feature a book along with the Blu-ray release. The second is 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Dwarf Plush Gift Set)' at an MSRP of $80. This set will feature the Blu-ray release along with a collectible plush of one of the dwarfs. And finally, at a MSRP of $250, is the 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Limited Edition Collector's Set)'. While final details about what will be included in that set are yet to be finalized, you can expect some extra special.
All five releases will features the film on both Blu-ray and DVD so that it can be watched in your home theater and on the go in your car without having to buy to separate releases.
We'll have more details as they become available.

^^^Lol, Pegasus. I'll probably get the Book version...if it is anything like the Gift Set versions of Lion King and Aladdin on DVD, that is what I'd like. However, the Gift set might be tempting...but unless it comes with a sericel or an additional bonus disc or something amazing, I'll probably pass on that one.
Either way, Snow White is great, but far from my favorite film. If there was a $250 gift set version of Beauty and the Beast, I'd be ALL over it.

I would love to see an edition (the $250 version?) come in a wooden box modeled after the one from the movie that the Queen gave to the Woodsman to put Snows heart in.

man 60 for just the book is high let alone 80 to add a stuffed dwarf or 250 which probably is the book and all 7 dwarfs stuffed, i can probably buy all this sepertae for about 85 bucks, man Disney wants you to paymore for a movie and a book than to get into the damn PARK, Walt is officially spinning in his grave....

That's funny, the cover art doesn't say "Platinum Edition" on it....
I'll get the regular BR edition but I just might go for the book version instead. Either way, I'm getting the movie on Blu Ray and DVD (on DVD so that it can go with my other Platinum Editions).

CHOICES!!
Warner Brothers should be doing the same damn thing with their releases of The Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, and Casablanca instead of forcing the $60 over-the-top collector's edition on us.

Good idea to offer basically the same content in both Blu-ray and DVD packaging.
For example, when CD + DVD combos are sold I always pick them up in a DVD package if it is offered instead of in a CD package. Then it sits on my DVD shelf.
For Snow White, I suspect that people who are going to be gradually dragged into Blu-ray will pick it up in the DVD packaging. Die hards, like us, will want the Blu-ray packaging.

I kinda think that DVD style case situation is more liek Disney telling the customer, you should buy BLU ray but we will give you a DVD copy to until you get your player. I will buy the BD edition myself.. interested in that INSANE box set though. I remember buying the classic Laserdisc BOX set for SNOW for like 100.00 back in the day. Times have changed

I actually think the DVD case is pretty smart. Since the DVD version comes out 7 weeks later, which some non blu-ray fanatics might not know, people may see the DVD case, see the fact that it does have a DVD in it, and buy that copy. Then they get home, and say whats this, it had a blu-ray in it too. Now they have started a blu-ray collection without even meaning to. Maybe they then go buy a blu-ray player to see the difference. Even if they don't, this all sounds like a pretty smart ploy to try and push blu-ray to the masses.
As for myself, I like the small blu-ray cases, can fit more of them on my currently diminishing shelf space before I have to go buy more shelves. Regular blu-ray/DVD combo pack for me.

How I see it is this. There is no longer an exclusive window for the blu release now that Disney is packaging the movie in dvd case. Like Darth_Bane said, people who want the dvd version will consider the blu a freebie (like how we consider dvds free in our blu packages). It's sneaky and smart but it diminishes the significance for the blu releasing 7 weeks ahead of the dvd.

How in the world are they going to keep track of sales as compared to DVD? Sure they can lump it all together as "Blu-ray sales". but how much will come from the ordinary Blu package as opposed to the other four?
Oh, to Fettastic who said: "I really don't think too many people are that upset about BD cases." LOL, try telling that to the anal people who whine here about all of the BD cases not being the same height or thickness.

I'll pass on all of them. I REALLY tried to like Snow White. I like Disney films, some of my favorite films ever are some of the animated classics...
But it's a dreadful film to sit through, outside of the historic value.
I'm probably one of the few, I'm sure, (I don't much care for Citizen Kane either) but I'm skipping ALL versions of this release. The importance of the release is one thing, hey it's great to see it happen, but I'm holding my money out for the animated features I really enjoy.
Here's looking forward to Lion King, Aladdin, Lady and the Tramp, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Jungle Book.

I agree that this is smart, from a certain point of view. And the Blu-Ray fanatic in me is thrilled.
However, I think the whole DVD case version may end up really upsetting some people. Mainly because I can see a lot of people buying it thinking they are getting the full DVD version, only to get it home and find out that they only have the movie on DVD and have to watch the Blu-Ray to check out any bonus features.
I think at the very least, Disney should just go the "Full Nine" and actually included the second DVD disc as well. That way, at the very least, people who buy this version will still get everything that they would if they bought the plain DVD version that will be coming out weeks later.
Additionally, I can only imagine the mess this will be once the separate DVD version does come out. I'm willing to bet that a lot of stores are going to display the DVD-case Blu-Ray/DVD combo set with their Disney DVD sections. Largely because many stores now are getting shelving, etc, specifically sized around Blu-Ray cases that won't fit DVD cases (at least not comfortably). So this means that when the regular, plain DVD version comes out, it will likely be next to (and will probably get randomly mixed in with) the DVD case Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, and possibly confuse some people even further.
Don't get me wrong, I love Blu-Ray and I support bringing it to the masses as much as possible, but I can see a lot of potential problems with this particular method.

I've seen a pic of the $250 version already. So far, all that can be seen are a pin collection, and a really nice, really big, box that's about twice to thrice the size of the Blu-ray case.
I forgot it came with a book, too, and some other things, but did not know there was a photo on this site.
As for the DVD case, it looks nice still. Gray bordering and all.
And BTW, Dynamo, all those people who accidentally buy the blu-ray will just return the disc and exchange for another one in which they think the DVD will be alone(with it's second disc, of course). They will not go and buy a blu-ray player unless they already see fit to have one.

A DVD sized case to appease those who don't want the blueray sized cases!? Sorry, but that's going wayyy overboard. We already go overboard in this country trying to please malcontents and rigging kiddy contests so "EVERYONE wins" to avoid damaging the fragile self esteem of todays already overly spoiled brats.By Disney doing this they are only opening themselves up to the same people they are trying to please, wanting EVERY new Bluray release, sold in a DVD case specially for them(sarcasm).
Seriously now.By going this route, the average person(non Bluray buyer/owner)is only going to get copnfused and expect this with every new Disney release.Though i am personally happy about the Bluray being release 7 weeks earlier than the DVD version, that move isn't likely to help matters either.Disney ought to have released all the different flavors at the same time/date in the cases the prospective editions belong in.

People, please hear me out here!
You have to agree with me that this is the worst cover artwork ever!
There are so many wrong things going on! First and most important:
01 - The Logo! - That's not Snow White Official logo! and does not go well with their past releases, every movie has their logo circled on a themed badge! look at Sleeping Beauty, Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Pinoccio Artworks!
02 - The overall drawing of The Queen is lame!, The Prince's Face doesn't resemble the one on the film! and look at poor Snow White!
OMG I'm so offended for this artwork! Specially for THIS release! It's the most important one for ANIMATION and to be treated with this kind of artwork is such an insult!
IF I WERE WALT DISNEY I WOULD PROBABLY DIE AGAIN RIGHT NOW!!

OMG! Im a Snow White Fan and this is yet the WORST ART WORK EVER! What is wrong with Disney and it's creative dept? Do they always have to do some lame art work for it's best movies or promotional campaigns? I mean come on ... the LOGO is TERRIBLE it's what hit me first, then Snow White's hands and arms goodness looks like she really is from 1937! And in that year they had much better movie posters! I really hope this is not the final art work... and the one with the witch and the apple is HORRIBLE!!!!! they can do better GO DISNEY!!! shape up!!! hire good designers! (Respect the original logos!)
