Kino Lorber revealed today that they are planning to release on 4K Blu-ray Orson Welles' classic film noir Touch of Evil (1958), starring Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Orson Welles, Joseph Calleia, and Joanna Moore. The release is expected to arrive on the market in the summer.
Please note that technical specs and supplemental features to be included on this upcoming release have not yet been finalized and will be revealed as the street date approaches.
Synopsis: When a car bomb explodes on the American side of the U.S./Mexico border, Mexican drug enforcement agent Miguel Vargas (Charlton Heston) begins his investigation, along with American police captain Hank Quinlan (Orson Welles). When Vargas begins to suspect that Quinlan and his shady partner, Menzies (Joseph Calleia), are planting evidence to frame an innocent man, his investigations into their possible corruption quickly put himself and his new bride, Susie (Janet Leigh), in jeopardy.

Orson Welles’ “Touch of Evil,” a film-noir masterpiece getting a UHD 4K release is purely fantastic to see. Look forward to seeing how it turns out as the Blu-Ray looked great, so the UHD 4K should be a stunning sight to say the least.
If this is getting a UHD 4K release, one has to suspect another top-notch film-noir masterpiece in Billy Wilder’s “Double Indemnity” has to be in the works by Universal. Also, Warner Bros. needs to follow in tow in doing another first-rate film-noir masterpiece in John Huston’s “The Maltese Falcon” giving it a UHD 4K release especially since it’s the film’s anniversary.

@williamh
I bet KINO will decide which version of the film gets 4K treatment by another Facebook poll. Whichever version wins will be the one that gets the true 4K treatment and be declared the 'best' and 'superior' version. Some studios use the 'Certified Fresh' sticker to sell movies, KINO uses Facebook polls to dictate content.

Wut?
I don't mean this in a bad way, just surprised this is getting the 4k treatment. Given the unusual lighting and camera work this would benefit from HDR, I think.

I'll be the sour puss to say: I can't count the times this movie has been released already, in spite of many as-deserving movies that haven't seen the light of home video day.

UnionJackMix, you have to remember though that Kino's output is such that I doubt any other title is being up more than a few weeks!

Charlton Heston. As a Mexican. In 4K!

@Jay H. Originally Welles wanted Pedro Armendáriz (who was a Mexican icon) to play the role as written. Universal vetoed this and placed Heston for "Box-Office Draw" (obviously). Welles caved, so he could cast Marlene, and retaliated having Heston made up with Nescafé. :P

As long as they don't cheap out and fail to use HDR (ala GtBtU) then this is fantastic news.
Already have the limited edition with booklet, but will double dip as long as they treat it right.

Wow, Orson Welles in 4K (and hopefully HDR). I must be fever dreaming.
So next I’m wishing for Citizen Kane. But that means WB has to do some work.

This is surely great news and I will be picking this up right away, now this is what I find valuable about 4k are the classics, it's the release of The Ten Commandments that has me shopping for a replacement projector that does 4k. I really like the movie but if I had my choice of movies to pick from that have had 4k restorations and were being released by Kino, my top vote would be for Thoroughly Modern Millie, the movie that became Universal's highest grossing movie ever after it was released.

I just bought the blu-ray less than two weeks ago, so you can thank me for this 4k release. Now, someone should buy Citizen Kane on blu-ray and bite one bullet for the team.

I am disappointed hearing all three cuts will be 1.85 aspect ratio. Was hoping Kino would use the 1.37 open matte Eureka gave us fans. This film looks "blown out" in the 1.85 ratio. 1.37 gives the characters room to breathe without the image looking cramped.

I try to get as much 4K as I can. With the exception of Disney and Criterion, it's like everyone wants my wallet! I guess you could say Disney and Criterion does, but new releases on DVD only or rereleases of previous Blu-rays doesn't cut it.
