Flee Blu-ray

Decal Releasing, NEON and Bleecker Street's newly formed home entertainment distribution company, will release on Blu-ray Jonas Poher Rasmussen's Flee (2021), featuring the voices of Daniel Karimyar, Fardin Mijdzadeh, Milad Eskandari, and Georg Jagunov. The release will be available for purchase on March 1.
Official description: Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Flee tells the story of Amin Nawabi as he grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, one that threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon to be husband. Recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, he tells for the first time the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan.

Flee is reportedly the first film ever to simultaneously qualify for the Animated Feature, Documentary Feature *and* (as Denmark's entry) International Feature Oscars, and could be nominated in all three. While Waltz with Bashir was thrown out of the Documentary Feature race before nominations, Flee has already made the 15-film shortlists for both Documentary Feature & International Feature so it has at least a one-third chance each at those two nominations. (There is no shortlist for Animated Feature, only the 26-film eligibility list.) That's why this new label needs to take extra care with this release, even assuming that's a valid excuse for not having a 4K.
