Eureka Entertainment's Masters of Cinema series has been chosen as the ‘Label of the Year' in the latest February 2010 edition of the British AV magazine Home Cinema Choice. The Masters of Cinema release of F.W. Murnau's 'Sunrise' was also chosen as ‘Best Remastering' for its Blu-ray version released in September 2009.
Other nominees were Walt Disney's Platinum/Diamond Editions and Optimum's Studio Canal Collection.
Home Cinema Choice said in its announcement: “From contemporary Asian cinema to silent 1920s classics, Eureka's Masters of Cinema Series is a cinephile's dream come true.”
The Masters of Cinema Series was founded in 2004. The first Blu-ray in the series ('Mad Detective') was released in November 2008.
“We lavish a great amount of time and energy on every release, born from our enthusiasm for, our love of, and our allegiance to the cinema” said Nick Wrigley, Masters of Cinema Production Director. We're very lucky that many of our supporters confidently ‘blind buy' our new releases safe in the knowledge that we care about the films' presentation as much as they do.”
Forthcoming Blu-ray releases for 2010 include 'Une femme mariée', Fritz Lang's 'M' – and the bold move of releasing Murnau's 'City Girl' - the first classic film to be released exclusively on Blu-ray in the UK.

A very worthy choice; it's nice to see quality get recognized.
The detail and clarity of the "Czech version" of Sunrise on BD is just stunning. I never thought in a million years I would see that movie look that good in my own living room. Definitely the home video event of the year for me. | |
