Elvis Commemorative Blu-ray Editions Coming Soon

Posted January 28, 2010 09:46 AM by Juan Calonge

Warner Bros.Spanish site ZonaDVD is reporting that Warner Home Video is preparing the Blu-ray release of five movies starring Elvis Presley to celebrate the 75th anniversary of his birth. At the moment there is no information on which specific titles might be included, or if they will be released separately or in a commemorative box set.

Two Elvis movies, 'Jailhouse Rock' and 'Viva Las Vegas', are already available on Blu-ray.

I haven't seen Jaihouse Rock in Blu yet, but I can tell you Viva Las Vegas is one of the best transfers out there. The color is completely mind boggling!!!

hope it is true.
warner Elvis titles include: "Harum Scarum", "Spinout", "Speedway", "It happened at the World's Fair", "Stay Away Joe", "Charro", "Kissin' Cousins", "Tickle Me", "That's The Way It Is" and "Girl Happy"
there are few others.
unfortunately the best Elvis movies are "Love Me Tender", "G.I. Blues" "Loving You", "King Creole" and "Blue Hawaii", and they are not Warner controlled so I can't get super excited about this unfortunately.

I agree with you Lucy Diamond, VLV's color and clarity is sick! Jailhouse Rock looks great too. I'd double dip for "This Is Elvis". After that, I would get "That's the Way It Is" for sure and maybe "Charro" if they made it to BD, both blind buys for me but I've heard they're faves by fans.

That's The Way It Is would be the one we all would like, as well as that 'copy' of a concert that sells on eBay...

Just read this at the Elvis site:

This Fall, Elvis on Tour is coming to DVD and dazzling Blu-ray high definition - for the first time ever. Featuring electric performances from Elvis' 1972 tour, this Golden Globe winning documentary captures the raw energy and excitement of Elvis' best live performances. In celebration of Elvis' 75th birthday year, a 17-film Ultimate Collector's Edition DVD box set is also planned, which will include ELVIS ON TOUR, VIVA LAS VEGAS, JAILHOUSE ROCK and more. Be on the lookout for more details soon!

Elvis On Tour?!?!?! Yes!!

I have the dubious distinction of having watched every Elvis movie. Some were quite painful to watch. The majority are mediocre.

The only ones I decided to buy were Viva Las Vegas, Girl Happy, and Loving You.

I'd love Girl Happy to come out on Blu -- Shelley Fabares is gorgeous.

THANK YOU RUSSTCB !!!! YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY !!!! My mom and I went to the local theater days after Elvis' death, because they stopped what they were screening, to screen THIS because of everyone's grieving at the time...Nashville, Tennessee 1977. ALL I have is a homemade VHS off of Turner Classic Movies. Happy ! Happy !!!http://www.elvis.com/news/full_story.asp?id=2099

You're all welcome! I'm glad I came across the information to sell. I'm still SHOCKED that Elvis On Tour is coming to blu-ray and I'm beside myself with excitement!

If they release BOTH That's The Way It Is & Elvis On Tour I won't even know what to do with myself.

VIVA LAS VEGAS is by far the best Elvis movie because it has a true musical-feeling with songs developing out of the story AND Ann-Margret. And the BD is beautiful, so the best of the movies - in my opinion - is already out there :-) But I will look out for the shows that you people rave about!

Along with ELVIS ON TOUR & THAT'S THE WAY IT IS, I personally like the look & feel of ALOHA FROM HAWAII from 73'. Plus dont forget about his 68' Comeback Special. Is that not a Great representation of Elvis at that time, still looking good & sounding great in a relaxed atmosphere? As the song goes, IF I CAN DREAM, we'll get these 4 Excellent releases on Bluray remastered to Perfect Audio & Video representations!

That's The Way It Is, Aloha From Hawaii and the 68 Comeback Special should be released. Since we have Elvis On Tour coming out already the other concert ones should be put out first in my opinion.

Aloha and 68 were video taped not filmed so they wouldn't see any benefit from a BD release except for uncompressed sound. That's The Way It Is and Elvis On Tour were both filmed, not only that but Elvis On Tour was never released on DVD so fans of these 2 films are going to get a huge upgrade on both PQ and AQ. I'm super pleased they're releasing these first and still beside myself in disbelief that Elvis On Tour is actually getting a BD release.
