Warner Home Video has announced The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Edition for release on Blu-ray on March 16. When Victor Fleming's classic was released on September 29, 2009, this single-disc edition was originally a retailer exclusive, available only at Wal-Mart. Now all bricks-and-mortar and Internet retailers will be able to stock it.
As explained during release week on the Wizard of Oz buying guide, this edition is comprised of only one disc, but that doesn't mean it is a barebones release. On the contrary, it contains the following special features:
- Audio commentary
- The Making of a Movie Classic (SD, 51 minutes)
- The Art of Imagination: A Tribute to Oz (SD, 30 minutes)
- The Legacy of Oz (SD, 25 minutes)
- Memories of Oz (SD, 28 minutes)
- Jukebox (Audio, 70 minutes)
- Stills Galleries (SD, 105 minutes)
- We Haven't Really Met Properly (SD, 21 minutes)
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Storybook (SD, 11 minutes)
- Prettier Than Ever: The Restoration of Oz (SD, 11 minutes)
- Music and Effects Track (Audio)
- Leo Is on the Air Radio Promo (Audio, 12 minutes)
- Good News of 1939 Radio Show (Audio, 61 minutes)
- Lux Radio Theater Broadcast (Audio, 61 minutes)
- Sing Along
- Another Romance of Celluloid: Electrical Power (SD, 11 minutes)
- Cavalcade of the Academy Awards Excerpt (SD, 2 minutes)
- Texas Contest Winners (SD, 2 minutes)
- Off to See the Wizard Excerpts (SD, 4 minutes)
- Trailers (SD, 11 minutes)
- Harold Arlen's Home Movies (SD, 5 minutes)
- Outtakes and Deleted Scenes (SD, 14 minutes)
-
It's a Twister! It's a Twister! The Tornado Tests (SD, 8 minutes)
- BD-Live
With this latest wide release, now all retailers will be able to offer the three Blu-ray editions of The Wizard of Oz: the Ultimate Collector's Edition (MSRP $84.99), the Emerald Edition (MSRP $49.99) and now, the single-disc 70th Anniversary Edition (MSRP $28.99).

Great News. I really didn't want the Big ultimate edition. Glad I waited. I did that mistake with Casablanca.

I think I must have missed something. This mentions that the Emerald Edition is widely available and I didn't know that. I bought it in the beginning when it was Target Exclusive and mine came in a 3-disc Viva Elite standard blu-ray case in a slipbox cover. The amazon customer pics show this edition as a 3-disc digipack in a slipbox?
Did they change the packaging on the 3-Disc Emeral Edition when it became widely available? Is the digibook packaging still Blu-ray height or is it DVD packaging height like the digibook in the Ultimate Collector's Edition?

Will this effect Canada?
We were originally suupposed to get the target style 3 disc version at futureshop, but that never happend, and as far as i know the only version available in canada is the ultimate collectors edition in that stupid box thing
anybody know if Canada is getting the 3 disc or one disc release, i really want this film, but i don't want to pay the high price for the giant box and i'd like the movie in a standard keep case on my shelf
whats the deal with Canada...can we please get one of these releases? If it doesn';t happen i'll talk to wayne gretzky and wolverine and i'll have them cancel the olympics in protest

I'm still all warm and fuzzy after picking up the Emerald Edition for $12 on Black Friday at Target (actually $7 after a $5 coupon).

I'm still satisified with my 3-disc Emerald Edition from Target. But this is great news for those that don't want a whole lot of the fluff from the Ultimate Collector's Edition box.

The Emerald Edition (first available at Target, now nationwide) is the best version for those who don't want all the printed extras in the UCE. It has everything the UCE does, just not the print extras and fancy box. But all the discs are there, including the "MGM When the Lion Roars" documentary. That's the best doc ever done about MGM.
This single disc version is the same as the Walmart version, isn't it? Looks like it.

ozianscott, it's there on the first paragraph: "this single-disc edition was originally a retailer exclusive, available only at Wal-Mart."

Do they main widescreen? Or just "for a bigger" audience?
