Avatar: Collector's Edition will come out on Blu-ray on November 16. This street date and a cover image were revealed on the trailer for A Message from Pandora, an special feature on an environmental campaign in Brazil, produced by James Cameron and to be included in the Collector's Edition Blu-ray.

It has also been revealed elsewhere that the Collector's Edition will feature an extended cut of the movie with 16 additional minutes, including a deleted opening sequence set on Earth; and that 45 minutes of unfinished material will be available (see blu-ray.com, August 24 and August 27).
This is the version to pick, or maybe the 3D version. I will differently not triple dip since I already own the bare bone version. So the question is:
Will the 3D version have the same extras as the collector's edition? Will there be a 4th or 5th edition along the road?
I think Cameron said that was a possibility, like what Disney do with inserting storyboards in etc...
I'm curious how well this will do, i can't see it been a big deal for most general audiences so we'll get to see how strong the fan base is for Avatar and Blu special features.
I quite like the cover art too. No floating heads or quotes etc...
I knew this would happen so never bought first release. Have only seen Avatar once, in 3D on opening day. I loved the 3D and have been debating going back to it this week, but remembered I had a chance to sneak into it after seeing "Up in the Air" and felt like 'Why bother?'. I may get this edition down the road, but not right away. I've got like an extensive wishlist to fufill first
I skipped the bare-bones release just for this and I'm glad I did as it looks like they actually put some effort into this release rather than just going for the quick cash grab. Also, that Collector's Edition cover is amazing. Much better than the bare-bones cover. Looking forward to picking it up.
My guess is that there`ll be another release sometime next year, including more extra`s. I mean, there has to some documentary stuff about the techniques they used making this, right?
im officially confused. so does this disc have three versions? extra 9 mins, extra 16 mins, and extra 45 mins. is the 16 minute version include the 9 mins plus and additional 7 mins? or are two seperate releases coming out? the special addition (9 mins) then the seperate collectors addition (16 plus 45 min versions)?
tuck301:
this edition will include 3 versions: theatrical, extended with 9 mins added and expanded "alternate reality version" with 16 mins added. these 16 mins will also include 9 mins of extended version. 45 mins of unfinished footage will be included separately from the main feature and they will not include previously mentioned 9 or 16 mins.
I told my boyfriend to get me this for Christmas. I have the bare bones edition. Due to an error on Amazon's part I only paid five bucks for it. This will be well worth the price and I can hardly wait. I am also going to see it again in the theater
I held off on the bare bones edition, and I'm looking forward to picking this movie up. Sure, the film was a bit overrated but it's still an enjoyable popcorn flick, and the special features for this film should be interesting.
To be honest, I thought IMAX made the film better, more so than the 3D did. However, I can't really justify buying a ticket to see it again in theaters.
It was said that the first bare bone edition was to have the best PQ of all because of no extras on the disc. Anyone know if the PQ will indeed decrease notably with this fully loaded edition? I guess we will find out when it is reviewed...
As much as i like this movie, what they gonna keep doing-add a few more minutes every few months and re-release it?I should think most films ever made have extra footage not used in the original, the thing is if we are daft enough to keep buying they will keep doing it!
What a flipping hypocrite deriding America. Brazil is trying to do what we did here to produce electrical power which in turn brought most of the electricity to California to make his stinking movies in the first place! This fricking turd is trying his darnest best to insure the natives retain their poverty from such annoying things like we Americas have taken for granted these several Decades now, what a guy! Didn't know he was such a Maxist/Socialist till now.
We are gonna be shown how much of a mess we've done to mother gaia in the new cut eh? He's already aped 'Dances with Wolves' and so now he'll be shagging 'Blade Runner' too? I saw the new ad for those nine minutes and it showed them hunt like they did in '~Wolves' to nail forever how much of a stealing bastard he really is!
So I'm still confused, someone help me out with this. Is this cut 16 minutes longer? Or 45 minutes longer? Because the posting under this one says "Avatar Collector's Edition Blu-ray with 45 Minutes of Deleted Material" or is this just "Deleted Scenes" in the Special Features menu?
@Carador
It's only 16 minutes longer not 45 minutes. The 45 minutes is on the deleted scenes, which is not played during the movie. I'm sure you have to click on the special future menu for the deleted scenes. Day one for me yaaay
Anyone who bought the previous Blu-Ray wasted there money. It was such an obvious cash grab that lead the way to a double dip.
Even this release since it lacks 3D is incomplete. A 3D version will almost certainly be out the same date sold exclusively with Panasonic televisions. Though like all exclusive discs it will probably be free of extras. So you will have to buy a Panasonic 3D television and this release if you want the definitive Avatar experiance.
Alot of money we are expected to fork out to support a guy who hates Capitalism.
This movie is STILL over-rated and STILL a re-working of Star Trek: Insurrection - but with worse acting. I don't see how another 16 minutes is going to make it any better, it'll just make it eeeeven mooooore boooooring.
so what is the extra 45 min? are they adding the few plot elements from poccohantas that they actually didn't rip off? ew. the first version of lsd-enhanced poccahantas was too long as it is. in order to save myself money i'll simulate the experience of sitting through this movie by shoving forks into my face for 3 hours
SURLY I DONT SEE WHAT ALL THE THE HYPE WAS WITH THIS WACK MOVIE ,THIS TYPE OF STORY CAN BE LEARNED IN OUR HISTORY BOOKS ,THE STORY WAS SOOOO CLICHE'...LIKE ...HEY ..I KNOW THIS STORY FROM SOMEWHERE..,I BROUGHT THE BLU CAUSE OF ALL THE HYPE ! ,AND TO THIS DAY I CANT SIT THROUGH THIS "BEEN THERE ,DONE THAT" STORY LINE .....I THINK ALL THE HYPE WAS MORE FOR THE CGI AND THE PICTURE QUALITY...OTHER THAN THAT ,THE MOVE TOTALLY BLEW!!..I SOLD THAT WACK BLU RAY TO ONE OF MY BUDDIES FOR TWENTY BUCKS ....AT LEAST I GOT MY INVESTMENT BACK FROM THAT TRASH !
AVATAR IS NOTHING MORE THAN A "SPACE-AGED "SPIN-OFF OF THE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS/NEW WORLD DISCOVERY STORY FROM HISTORY CLASS!!!...CANT YOU DIZORKS SEE THAT !! LMAO !!
With the extended & original versions? That's real good. And new extras? Very, very good! I got to get the Collector's Edition Blu-ray with same audio 5.1 DTS-HD & Dolby 2.0 Surround, same aspect ratio 1.78. I thought "Avatar: Collector's Edition" could be released on Election Day in USA, just before or after you vote, but November Sixteenth it's ok. Now, I got to see the extended version.
Dirtherder: Maybe Brazil is one of the few places left that actually has natural elements worth preserving? I mean, if New Zealand was in immediate danger of becoming like America, I'd hope a plain over there and tie myself to a tree because it's such a gorgeous country. Brazil too.
And about him being a socialist; the only evidence of that being a bad thing is what capitalist corporations spoon-feed us through the media that they control.
I really like the new Brazil commentary feature. Preserving the amazon is something I've thought about since my teens and it's nice that James is adding his voice to it.
I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but I love that cover art! I'll get it anyway, just so I can watch it with my friends and have a good laugh at all that is wrong with the movie.
So, does the Ultimate have MORE than the Collector's Ed.?????????????? Is it substantially more video content on the Ultimate ed., or just added swag? The Collect. ED has the extended, theatrical and alternate versions? So what does the Ultimate version have? I'm confussed!!!!!
