WinDVD Gets Profile v1.1 Certification

Posted November 29, 2007 06:33 AM by Josh Dreuth

TDKCorel has announced that they have been awarded BD-Video Profile 1.1 certification by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) for their WinDVD Blu-ray playback software. As the primary Blu-ray playback software for PCs, WinDVD has been a popular choice for Blu-ray owners who use home theater PCs to view their movies.

Jeff Hastings, President and General Manager, Digital Media at Corel commented, "Corel is pleased to be the first DVD playback software vendor to receive BD-Video 1.1 Certification. With the retail release of Profile 1.1-enabled Blu-ray Discs early in 2008, WinDVD users will be able to enjoy the ultimate at-home movie viewing experience, watching their favorite high-definition Blu-ray Disc movies, while enjoying the director's commentary at the same time."

The update will be available early 2008 for WinDVD users.

Nice.

I used to use WinDVD for DVD playback on computers and it was certainly one of the best softwares
available. Nice to know that when I have Blu Ray drives on my computers WinDVD will still be a high
quality playback option.

In cmy experience WinDVD has been by far the software player of choice for DVD players + software player bundles in the past, and definitely one of the top if not -the- top playing solution.

Only gets better and better

Sweet. Good to know this works already. I am sure that my MAC will get this when they add BD
players in them as well.

I perfer WinDVD. I'm glad there certification by the Blu-ray Disc Association. I hopefully they get rid 99.9% most of the bugs. By then WinDVD should support DTS-HD (Master) and Dolby TrueHD.
