Offbeat: Blu-ray Inspired Cosmetics

Posted January 24, 2008 08:14 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray DiscThis is a bit different than the news we typically cover, but cosmetics company Cargo has released a "blu_ray" cosmetics line. Labeled as "high definition make-up", it is designed for make-up artists who are filming in high definition. Besides the name similarities, packaging designs are also very similar, and it is difficult to miss the obvious connection.

As far as I'm concerned, that's the first and last time we'll need to discuss blu_ray cosmetics on this website, but we would be doing a disservice to our female readers if we didn't at least point you to the website.

Thanks goes out to HighDefChief for the news tip.

This is actually quite interesting. They say the line is "created for make-up artists filming in high-definition...designed to produce flawless results while maintaining a perfectly natural look." Watching the news in HD it's amazing (and a little disturbing) how many male anchors have incredibly obvious makeup lines...it reminds me how Abbie Hoffman used to forego makeup before TV appearances so he could retort that "it's funny how the people who say that to me are always wearing makeup."

Yeah, news anchors in High-Def could have killed High-Def... the first year or so was VERY scary.

after watching all the skin imperfections in Sunshine, I think it's best they developed some make up to hide those imperfections

I hope they don't cover up all the blemishes. It's what makes people unique and different. It's cool they developed this make up line. Really neat idea!

This could be funny. I can imagine a commercial with a number of tall beautiful models wearing short blue skirts w/ sparkles and blu_ray makeup like blue lipstick, eyeliner, blush, and nails. They could promote all things blu! Their scene background could be a cool blue and black like the blu_ray website http://www.cargocosmetics.com/bluray.html with sophisticated late 20's people drinking martini in an air conditioned room.

Blu girl: "Make-up artists use Cargo blu_ray for flawless makeup, it's no wonder High-Definition expects anything less." and they cut to a few girls wearing red down the bar with a red/black background, hot and sweaty, disheveled looking girls with messy hair and runny makeup. No guys finding them attractive and cut back to model guys lingering around the blu girls!
Blu girl: "Be cool, be blue."

HAHAHA

I copyright this idea!!!

It's probably not just girls who need this. Based on some anchormen and weathermen appearing on the news, they didn't get the memo that their station is broadcasting in HD yet. They look rather scary in HD and need a good workover by a makeup crew. Some of the ladies also need tips on how to use makeup for HD. Their makeup might look fine in NTSC, but it's scary in 1080i broadcasts.

I'm glad someone came up with a line of set make-up like this, many of the comments from above are correct, that News Anchors and weathermen look ghastly with conventional makeup on HD cameras. The makeup that they use for the standard def shoot is much more akin to stage makeup, but with less greasepaint foundation and more Max Factor style pancake foundation, this is why so many actresses have complained about how they look worse or older in HD...now they can go on with their physical hubris in peace... and we don't have to see how nasty JLo actually looks!

BBC Anchor Sues Over Facial Surgery For HDTV Makeover. To bad she didn't hear about Cargo products. This my opinion she is a very attractive women even if she has acne. Don't sweat the small stuff. KID My husband said you are very attractive even with acne.
