Underworld Reboot Coming Up
Posted August 28, 2014 04:22 PM by
Lakeshore Entertainment are prepping a new Underworld film which will be based on a script by Cory Goodman (Scott Stewart's Priest). The upcoming film will be produced by Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news earlier today.
The first Underworld film, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Kate Beckinsale, was released in 2003. Since then there have been three more films with Beckinsale's character, Selene: Underworld: Evolution (2006), Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), and Underworld: Awakening (2012).
In the United States, all four films are already available on Blu-ray courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. They can be purchased individually or in a box set. Please click on the individual covers on the box set listing to read our reviews of the original releases.
A reboot!!! I thought the next movie was going to be about Micheal and Selene kid and pick up a couple years after the last one. Underworld: Next Generation
If we're picking nits, it also didn't look like leather, at least no leather I've ever seen.
I agree with the consensus. Hopefully the term reboot has been misapplied here, which it sounds like might be the case. I'm fine as long as there's little resemblence to any of the previous films. Otherwise it needs to be a sequel. But I'm sure I'll watch it when it hits BD regardless of what they do.
Hopefully this will end up being the same case as Terminator: Genisys. They used the term "reboot", but it's actually another a sequel in the franchise.
I imagine they're just trying to make a sequel that doesn't rely on Kate Beckinsale. Writing her out is essentially 'rebooting' the franchise because it'll follow a new face. God, they better not be redoing her characters storyline, that'd be a terrible idea.

What do you think the 10 hour orgy of LOTR backstory we're getting right now is all about? It's an extension of the storyline, and you don't reboot a franchise you're milking. Use some common sense
The upcoming spin-off for Harry Potter is going to determine whether or not we'll get a reboot or just more content from the same universe.
And I'm quite excited for a Twilight reboot. Maybe with a good cast and some rewrites it could be entertaining, lol.
I can't imagine they mean reboot as in simply remaking the first flick...I hope not. lol I hope they mean that they are going to do a flick which provides a fresh take on the overall "mythology", respecting themes the previous 4 already created. Perhaps do a film based on another coven's survival in the ongoing war with Lycans and/or humans. All new characters that are based anywhere the writers may want to place them within the quadrilogy's timeline. That could work.
Same thing happened with Blade Trinity!!! Smh ... a lot of people said that Awakening was the "Blade Trinity" of the Underworld series. I thought that Awakening was decent, but nowhere near as good as Underworld or Underworld Evolution. It would be a shame if Awakening is the final entry ending with a cliff hanger.
Turns out Theo James from Awaking will be the lead role in Underworld 5. It won't be a reboot and will expand on his story. Beckinsale isn't going to appear.
Boring! Without Beckinsale this movie is going to bomb.
