Warner Home Video has announced via a retail ad that the Michael Douglas film 'Falling Down' will get a Blu-ray Digibook release on May 26th. As is common with all Digibook releases, the disc will come with a hard cover book featuring photos and short writings on the film. No technical specs have been announced at this time, but you can expect 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.
No special features have been announced at this time.
Good movie, but unusual choice for Digibook treatment. Especially with so many classic Warner films
waiting to be released. BTW, how about a version of Casablanca without $20.00 of chachkis?
Excellent. Definite buy here. Never picked up the DVD from the $5 bargain bins in hopes that a special edition was on the way... Hopefully this release will have some actual extras on top of the built-in book.
As much as I wish all movies came in the same type of case, it looks like im going to just have to get over it and buy into the digibook cases... doesnt look like warner plans on stopping anytime soon, plus I really want Natural Born Killers, And Shawshank... and now Falling down. I would have no problem with the DB cases if they were the same height as the plastic ones.
Thank God, most customers aren't so anal about the packaging of THEIR titles. I'll be buying one.
This is a weird title though, and a May release date? I guess Warner figures it will take 6 months of PR to #1 - remind people about this movie, and #2 - convince them it's not right-wing propaganda.
And a second on Casablanca - it's a remarkable transfer, but let's lose all the crap and just sell it like any other classic release.
To those who don't like the digibook cases, Blockbuster always carries rental copies of Blu-Rays
with normal blu-Ray packaging. Just rent it when it comes out and let it sell off to your account like a used copy. I bought some replacement Blu-Ray cases as well at sleevecity/sleevetown online. One, you'll be able to get the packaging you want without having to import, and you usually only end up paying 19.99 or 24.99. I've already done it with Shawshank and Cuckoo's nest.
Must buy for me, I have the DVD and love this movie. I hated that crappy DVD case they used though (paper and clasp). @ PowellPressburger, no one of the big players charges retail for Blu-rays, this will probably be $19.99 at first at Amazon, then drop to around the $14.99 range within a couple of months.
Excellent! Michael Douglas gives a dynamite performance in the film! It ranked right up there
with his Oscar-winning performance in Wall Street! Day one purchase!
Haha me too. Every time I see a small burger which does not look at all like the mouth wattering picture on the large display I think now why doesn't the burger I ordered look like that?!
First snappercases (DVDs) and now digibooks (BDs). Warner always has to do things differently, huh? Although this doesn't irritate me nearly as much as their discs defaulting to the DD5.1 track with no way to select the HD track until you enter the movie. That REALLY sucks.
I love this movie! It's so odd and different that it just makes me like it more. I WILL be getting this too! BTW, packaging NEVER stopped me from buying a great movie!
The perfect pairing for this would be a release of another under-appreciated Douglas film, the terrific David Fincher picture "The Game". Let's see it!
PS - I am surprised this is getting a digibook release.
Oh my god not another digibook , i cant believe they went out of their way for cool packaging and
whats with the height, its a whole quarter of an inch taller than the other ones, oh my god what a
bunch of horrible people why would they do this?
^ I think it's funny (actually quite sad that someone would abstain from buying a movie because of this) too. I love my digibooks. I am just surprised this release is being selected for one. It's perhaps even more odd a choice than Natural Born Killers getting one.

Yeah for sure i love em too, i wish every title was in a digibook with a booklet even non warner titles,
i think its nice, i in no way understand how it's "substandard packaging"
Have you guys even looked at the Digibook releases? They're pretty nice, and not "substandard" at all. I can tell you that more thought went into that packaging than the standard blue plastic case that the studios probably buy in lots of 10,000 for $10, and stick a single-sheet insert into. Besides, I buy a movie because I like/want the movie; not because I like the packaging. Who cares if every single one of your movies isn't in an identical looking case?
Awesome day and date buy for me. This is definitely one of Warner's great classics. I recommend this movie to everybody I know, and nobody has ever complained about it yet.
I find it ironic that on DVD, it never got more than just a budget release edition (for the people that remember back then, DVDs were still 25$ and Warner had released budget titles for 14.99$ and Falling Down was in the initial batch) and that it gets a digibook release for blu-ray. At least the film gets recognized for what it really is now. Thumbs up!!!
HOWEVER...friggin digibooks are annoying. STICK TO ONE PACKAGE PLEASE!!!!
What a weird world. One of the things I found strangest moving from DVD to BD was that the standard blu-ray packaging was boring because every title looked so much the same. I started to not notice the differences in artwork and color on titles because they all had the uniform blu which stood out. What is interesting about everything looking the same. Give me digibooks, steelbooks, oversized boxsets, whatever...just give me variety! The films are all different, why can't the packaging be??
Anyway, back on topic. FALLING DOWN is a cool film. Not a title that I'll upgrade from my DVD, but I'm glad it's getting more than just a standard release. It's a provocative film.
I really like this movie and glad to hear it's getting a Digibook also. I wish ALL BD's came in Digibooks. To the people who won't buy a movie just because of the digibook for whatever lame reason, get over it. They are really nice and I have even considered buying movies I'm not crazy about just for the Digibook.
Must own for me!! Good choice, Warner. This is a friggin' classic. And given how things are with the economy, I think it accurately portrays the generally fed-up mood of many people these days. I'm fine with the digibook too. I like how the digibooks distinguish some of the classic titles.
the fact it's digibook doesn't makes me want to buy it or avoid it, it's the movie I want. and ultimately I want Warner to focus on quality above all else, TBH I also wish Warner would switch to AVC, but ultimately it's the movie and quality of the encodes that gets me to buy it, and I'll be buying this.
